Fan noise is better on the 4080, really I see no point in buying the 4060 or 4070 version of the meteor lake intel CPU, unless you get the new AMD version, which is one of the main cons with this laptop, that they purposely sabotaged the 4060 and 4070, and the price for the 4080 4090 is absurd, especially in EU its daylight robbery

I have the G16 with the 4080, and overall I really like it. The only issue I have is Nvidia advanced Optimus is a bit janky. My laptop thinks there's an external display plugged in, and sometimes the battery drains thinking the dGPU is running. It's not all the time, but it's janky.

The narrative of Mac OS being streamlined is pretty out of date these days imo, I use a studio everyday for work and have a m2 MacBook pro as my laptop and Mac OS has become stale, clunky, buggy and pretty old fashioned to be frank, there hasn't really been any true innovation on the Mac OS side for a very long time. I could power up my 10 year old iMac and it would look almost identical to my Studio today. Apart from the Apple Silicone, the hardware has been just as stale as well, that was their big advantage which with the launch of Qualcomm's new chips may also be over. I only really come in contact with windows on my ROG Ally but cant say I've found it to be all the cluttered or clunky, search still sucks, but then it does on Mac OS as well for anything more than launching an program or simple calculations in spotlight.

I was wondering... Will OLED burn-in happen if I don't use the "auto-hide taskbar" feature (since I hate it). I've heard modern OLED panels have come a long way since the first generation ones, and that burn-in is all but non-existent at this point. I plan to use this laptop for atleast 5 years (about 6 hours a day) and most of the time it's going to be work related stuff like word, pdf viewer, excel, etc. with only intermittent gaming. So, will getting the OLED version of this laptop be a mistake? Should I go for the IPS version instead? I do love how gorgeous OLED looks, but I don't want to be stuck with a degraded, taskbar burned-in screen 5 years down the line...

I wouldn’t recommend this laptop for gaming. I bought one of these and returned it for the g18 rog strix. The g16 is a lightweight gaming machine and cannot handle heavy intensive gaming at a high setting and fps even with the 4090.

Why is my g16 a bit different? I get about 9 hours of battery life, laptop is fairly quiet, I have 2tb ssd, 32gb ram and hardly gets hot. When I use it for regular use it stays at about 45-50c on cpu.
And when gaming it maxes out at about 75-80c

8 Gb of video ram (vram) might have been enough 4 or 5 years ago but any laptop in 2024 that doesn't have at least 12 Gb of vram doesn't deserve to be called a "gaming laptop"!

@Jesse Khach Should I get the G14 or G16 if I'm planning on taking it to classes as a computer science major? Is the G16 fine portability-wise?
