The increased crit chance and multiplier do make a noticeable difference even without building into them. A 3% chance to do 50% more damage is on average 1, 5% more damage, but an 11% chance to do 90% more damage is a 9, 9% increase - so Phantasma Prime does 8, 3% more DPS than the standard Phantasma. However, critical hits also get x2 damage on headshots, so if you aim for those the Prime will pull ahead quite a bit.

Also, the improved multiplier means you gain ~80% more benefit from Covenant/Cat's Eye/Arcane Avenger buffs.

It's another Supra VS Supra Vandal situation, the supra vandal is such a minor upgrade but a lower riven disposition so using the normal will net you similar or better damage than the fancy "upgraded" weapon. Even more so with this as prime has minimum disposition compared to the standard phantasma. If you don't have a riven though, its a slight upgrade.

The grattler vs kuva grattler is also similar (archwing still has 2.1x crit mult btw) but at least the kuva grattler also has some QoL tweaks.

Well, as far as I can really see, the only upgrade we seem to have gotten from it was a cosmetic upgrade. I'll use it over my normal phantasma, a gun that I love very much, for that alone.

i really like these vids. short and to the point. not a 10-15 min explanation.

Assuming you are not interested in using a riven which, unless you had one beforehand, is overpriced anyways, the extra ammo maximum is nice to have and the higher crit multiplier is useful if you want to use harrow or a similar frame. Revenant wouldn't do too much unfortunately.

one thing that prime has that base phantasma doesnt do nearly as well is builds that buff crit chance using outside means like avenger.

Idk if anyone else realized this, maybe it was intentional. But if you look at the Phantasma Prime from a quarter angle or the front, it looks like the face of a Vomvalyst

They could have applied the crit chance buff to the secondary fire as well, dont see any point in not doing so...
Maybe even higher crit chance or/and damage, since you are shooting one projectile, where with normal firemode you shoot many (in theory, cause its a beam in practice), so the chance of you getting critical hit is lower.

Was so excited to have this in my arsenal but got disappointed with how it fared in the simulacrum. After applying your build the heavy status truly makes a difference and it is chefs kiss

Remember Corinth? When primed variants actually had different features?

For people reading this, there is one reason to get it over the phantasma and that's that it is easier to get. Unless you're going to hurry though the star chart, if this weapon is unvaulted it is likelly to be easier to get than phantasma since that one requires sentient cores. You might be able to cheat a bit by redoing the Raijack quest to get a few of them, but yeah, if this one is unvaulted there is no reason not to get it. And if you're reading this after it got vaulted, well, the diffrence is small enough that you might as well invest in the Phantasma.

After getting it fully forma'd I went straight back to the regular phantasma because that thing just melts with the riven.

My largest disappointment with it's priming is that the alt fire went unchanged - it's critical damage wasn't even buffed.

I have to disagree, multishot is bread and butter on beam weapons. That’s a good bonus for the Phantasma.
Modding for heat, viral and rate of fire melts anything in this game, as long as you can stack more than 4 heat procs. Haven’t come across a weapon that can apply heat faster and don’t think a riven is absolutely necessary to run it effectively.
Bonus points for the alt-fire not depleting ammo reserves. It’s radius isn’t big, but it’s a lot of status. Run that on a frame that can bunch up enemies... follow up with a strong secondary or Glaive. Yeah, you get the idea.

It’s a monster that trivializes large parts of this game. It just flew a bit under the radar because you’d have to aim a bit😱.

I just wish you could hold the secondary fire instead of it auto firing. 😥

I really like the normal Phantasma, and the prime is kind of disappointing tbh. It's a fairly middling upgrade which I normally would be more okay with, but since it also has much worse disposition and I run a riven on my normal build I have a feeling it will actually have lower damage on the prime than the normal if just port my build 1 to 1. I wish they'd at least bumped the base damage up a little or something.

i actually love to run this weapon with a mod that lowers the accuracy/increases the spread. it makes the beam fly everywhere all over the screen its hilarious

ah yes, the funtasma, riven'd mine to 102% status, outcome: satisfactory

If they made this having a bigger magazine size instead of having a bigger magazine size reserve, I would've considered. But since they didn't, I'm sticking to the normal phantasma.

It's weird they didn't update the gimmick the weapon has or change the weapon a wee bit, but still a super amazing weapon, thanks for the helpful video MC!
