Gambinos project is a perfect example of how important marketing is. The music was not bad, but it’s hard to fall in love with a project that has no names to it’s tracks and no cover art. Also no videos to create a world for the music. As much as I enjoyed donda, I think with a crazy cover art it would’ve been even better.

i feel like 3.15.20 is actually easily childish gambino’s best, maybe only rivalled by awaken my love. the songs are so well produced, the flow of the album is so neat, and the message i got from the album was pretty wholesome and well said. the only major flaws i see in it are 1) it didn’t feature this is america, and 2) that the song titles make revisiting this thing for favourite songs a nightmare of a maze. a rerelease of this album with better song titles would bring it up to maybe an 8 or a 9 for me

Swiftie here to chip in my two cents. Reputation has some pretty good individual tracks (Delicate, King Of My Heart, Call It What You Want) but I agree it is very disjointed and FAR from her best. It kinda ticks me off it isn’t better because she had such a strong theme going - under her toughened exterior she put up while going through the worst PR nightmare of her life, she is vulnerable and afraid and was able to find a true love who loves her for who she is and not for her now damaged *reputation* (ha). But it’s like every now and then she remembers “oh yeah this is the edgy album” and throws in stinkers like Look What You Made Me Do and This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things that derail the theme. This simply wasn’t her best work, but some fans associate it so closely to the troubles she was going through, as well as her comment in Miss Americana that she’ll try harder to make a better record after it was snubbed of a Grammy, that they feel you’re not allowed to criticize the album or else you’re kicking her when she was low.

Kendrick’s worst album is on the same level as some artists best album and better than many artists best albums. I think this speaks to how maybe Kendrick might be pretty good. But yeah DAMN. is a tad overrated 7.9/10
