Thank you for the well thought out and expertly explained volunteerist solution to a Statist argument for the apparatus and necessity of IP.

Very clear and solid arguments. I wish libertarians were more united in the position that intellectual property laws are unethical. I believe this may be the most critical problem facing our world today. Glad to see that many industries are already adopting the much of this position in practice.

What can we do about Disney’s abuses of intellectual property laws? It’s difficult to stop supporting them when they have ownership over Star Wars, and most movies and TV shows that most families enjoy. The company’s legal team is the legal equivalent to a T-Rex.

All property is state base as the state enforces a ban on theft.

Untrue about the mickey mouse drawing ... as it's only an issue if it's created for profit (to be sold) and doesn't meet guidelines for fair use or satire, etc. Furthermore, copyrights were normally much more limited in duration, and it was crony capitalism that didn't stop protecting the intellectual property when it should have expired long ago. Patents and copyrights were for LIMITED terms, are smart in concept, and should be kept and limited, just like we'll need some government, we just need it to be limited too.

Have you read "Origitent" by J Neil Schulman?

There was a movie and I can't think of the name right now but some people stole his idea. So he stole their lives from them if you get my drift.

Is that option off the table to fight the thieves? After all there are some states who still have the death penalty and copyrighting/patenting are enshrined in the US Constitution.

Can you imagine what would have happened if the inventors of Napster would have received the death penalty? I think there would have been a lot less copycat programmers...

What if I'm an author or artist and I sell you my creation (a book or a song) for your own pleasure with a contract to prevent you from creating copies?

"""For a simple example, if someone were to make a drawing of Mickey Mouse using their own pencil and paper, that would be considered copyright infringement."""

This is 100% factually untrue. It might be trademark infringement if you used it as the logo of your company, but drawing is not forbidden by copyright. This is a total strawman.

The blockchain is just a variation on the patent and copyright offices. No matter what, you'd still need the law to enforce the duration for ownership, to prove ownership in there were two blockchains claiming to be the authority for IP ownership, and to determine whether it was infringed or not.

Lastly, nobody can patent or copyright an idea. It's the expression and details that surround it that can be protected, so this is being a bit disingenuous as to how IP works now. Most open source still has an owner who controls the copyright.
