In this video we're listening to another one from Divinyls. This band is pretty interesting to us, and we can't wait to hear more from them. Enjoy!

The late Christina Amphlett & The Divinyls were highly underrated. They were a solid rock & roll band. Not a sanitized record company creation. Good stuff. 👍

guys! the lyrics are serious with the Divinyls... listen carefully... australian music of this era was very socially aware.. this song is about domestic violence

everyone was shocked when 'i touch myself' came out, but for those of us who knew their music, well, not a surprise. Loved CA. Loved her voice, and everything she too young.

Loved the Divinyls got to see them a couple of time back in the 80s in Sydney. Chrissie was incredible live she put everything into her stage performance watching her on stage as a young man was 🤩😲💪woman.

It's just amazing how a song can transport you back to the time in your life when you'd first heard it, even if that's nearly 40 years ago 😍 This was the first time in a veeery time that I heard this one, and I enjoyed it immensely, so thank you to everybody else who'd suggested 'Pleasure And Pain' and to Cynthia & Chris for checking it out! 😊👍

This song, about domestic abuse, is written by Mike Chapman and Holly Knight, who also wrote Love Is A Battlefield. It kinda sounds similar too. Mike Chapman was also a major writer during the 70s with his songwriting partner Nicky Chinn and wrote countless songs for Suzi Quattro, Smokie, Racy, among many others. The song Mickey is one of theirs too.

Chrissy has no equals. She was a force of nature. Miss her and her rock music.

Another great reaction. Thanks again. On your journey through Aussie music, you should check out the Hilltop Hoods. They're old school 80's hip hop. Very easy on the ears... I think you'll both like it. Keep up the good work!

Thanks guys love your reactions. Divinyls were a great original band. Not sure if you have already seen Divinyls 'Boys in Town', 'Science Fiction' or 'Only Lonely'.

Chrissy Amphlett was bold, the songs were risque, but she is a much loved Aussie rock chick whom we dearly miss, she was taken much too early by a cruel disease (Breast Cancer) R.I.P.

Us Aussies LOVE ABCTV’s rage! The show is from my home country Australia! The band The Divinyls are also from Australia!

Chrissy sings about a woman trapped in a crap relationship (the guy is clearly abusive) and she is questioning why she stays with him. It's a song that resonates with anyone who has been trapped in a relationship with a terrible person (looking at you, narcissists). There's a fine line between pleasure and pain, between getting what you need in a relationship and being abused while trying to get it. Btw, Chrissy was the greatest female rock singer ever.

❤💯 percent! First got to see 'em on MTV in 81, heard them on Kroq around same time..
Saw them at US Festival in 1983 followed by INXS on same bill... woohoo
Got to see Divinyls live in through the 80's, and loved all their albums.
This song is fine for radio but ''Sleeping Beauty'' is my favorite of all time
check that one out..

The Divinyls were a huge part of that 80's Australian music wave. Thank you Haniers for acknowledging them. Pleasure and Pain is easily in the Divinyls best ten. For me, Christina Amphlett was the best frontman* ** in Australian rock (sorry AC-DC, INXS and Cold Chisel fans).
*no apologies for using that term 'frontman' **alongside the lead singer from the Loved Ones, Gerry Humphries.

One of the few Divinyls hits that wasn't written by either Chrissie Amphlette and Mark McEntee. American songwriter, Holly Knight, and Australian producer, Mike Chapman (man behind many 70's/80's hits - Knack, Blondie, Tina Turner, etc), were behind this one. It got to a ho-hum # 76 in the US charts, and got to be a # 11 hit in their homeland.

These types of songs are not just considered "good" or "fun" in Australia. They are considered important cultural artefacts worthy of being in a museum. We take these songs very seriously.
