UK says Hong Kong offer upholds ‘freedom and autonomy’

Hong Kong residents can apply for a new visa offering a path to residency and citizenship in the United Kingdom starting on Sunday.
However, Hong Kong's authorities say they will no longer recognise the British National Overseas or BN(O) passport, hours after China made the same announcement.
But as Al Jazeera's Adrian Brown reports, many are determined to stay even as China moves to rapidly curtail the city's freedoms.

More Uk bs. Treated HK citizens as second class citizens for decades. No democratic election for LEGCO all the time UK was in HK not until right before returning HK back to UK. Then UK only allowed HK to elect half of the LEGCO. Other than that all high offices are appointed by the British. And HK jockey club was almost exclusive white. Well if they want to offer freedom, give them citizenship so HK don’t have to take them back.

As the present migrants to the UK are highly qualified and with reasonable wealth, the British govt must provide advice on UK Taxes. Otherwise it is tax trap on the hard earned wages accrued in HK. Asian people believed in family values and filial piety to looked after the aged parents. A welfare system is alien to people from HK and India. Asian family is build from ancestral system. Each generation will passed on to the next generation. We are Capitalists in essence. People from HK should be advised on potential tax accrued in HK and move their capital to the UK. Socialist UK is alien to people from HK and India.

As a Hongkonger, agree with the gorgeous lady. I wouldn't go to the UK. It's plagued with mutated virus, post-Brexit chaos, Scottish independence uncertainty, and terrible weather.

UK should have offered to British Hongkonger's prior to 1997, situation would have been very different
