Exploring Santorini Volcano - A Walk Through the Most Dangerous and Active Volcano in Greece in 4K

Nea Kameni is a small uninhabited island located in the Aegean Sea, specifically within the caldera of the island of Santorini (Thira) in Greece. It is a volcanic island that emerged as a result of ongoing volcanic activity in the region along with Santorini (Thira). Nea Kameni is one of the youngest volcanic centers in the Aegean, is part of the Hellenic Volcanic Arc and is a popular destination for tourists and researchers due to its unique geological features, including volcanic craters, hot springs and fumaroles. Visitors often take boat tours to Nea Kameni and have the opportunity to hike to the summit of the volcanic crater and observe the fascinating volcanic landscapes.

We arrived to Nea Kameni taking a boat at Athinios Port, located at the base of Thira using the cablecar, 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝟯𝟬 𝘁𝗼 𝟰𝟱 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗴𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗹𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟲€ 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁, but once you are in the gondola it will take you less than 5 minutes to arrive at Athinios Port, other options are walking down or ride a donkey.

Once in the port we got our tickets in the front desk office of Santo Star Travel, 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿, and waited to board. After some minutes, we finally boarded a wooden boat which finally took us to Nea Kameni roughly in 30 minutes, in the meantime you can enjoy the views and some snacks and beverages from the onboard bar

Once in the park you are free to wander around, 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗮𝘁. The entire walk offers incredible views of the main island, so it’s understandable that people lose track of time.
