To be fair, she said in an interview with Zayn Lowe that “There were moments when I was writing these songs – and even when I was mixing them and stuff like that – where I was like, ‘Maybe I don’t need to put this album out. Like maybe I should write another’.” That's why the album is very personal to her, it's her way of coping with her situation.

I really like the album, "To be loved", "Can I Get It", "Stranger By Nature" and "Easy on Me" are in loop since the release, but I understand the critic, because yes, sometimes the backing vocals ruine some moments for me too.

I'd be very interested to hear you talk in-depth about Amy Winehouse in a separate video. She's one of my favorite artists but I do think there's some controversial elements about her music that do need to be discussed. Especially since she's regarded as a tragic figure in music.

I feel this is an album that can either grow or shrink on you, I can see people either wanting to give her a hug listening through it (especially on "My little love") or telling her to get over the relationship and move on with her life, it's kind of how I feel with Stevie Nicks Rock a little from the 80's where I'm in the former camp despite many people being alienated with her venture towards pop rock and it not being among her most well regarded work

I disagree with you, but I respect that you were able to so crisply articulate why it didn't work for you. (And you are right about the backing vocals.) I feel the profound loneliness and loose experimentation that she was going for, especially on the first half of the album. As a whole, the album felt more earnest and more like a real sonic evolution. The emotional stakes were rawer and more fraught than in some of her other work. Still, you make some good points. A reasonable, thoughtful divergence of opinion on big blockbuster releases is a good thing.

I love how she often directs her voice with her hands as she sings 😂 Mark does have a good point re:subtlety - "I'm a grown woman and I do what I want to do" - refreshingly direct! but I see this album as a declaration of hope for the future for her and also for a world of people who are beleaguered by the pandemic. Maybe nuance will return with 40...

Strongly agree with Mark’s review. ‘30’ plays more like a reflection Adele needed for herself rather than a body of work the listener really feels part of. This is also the reason I don’t think there will be a lengthy hiatus between this project and the next era. I think Adele will probably release a follow up within 2 years.

Cry Your Heart Out was my favorite track on the album.

I like 21 and 25 way more, but this record still I thought was pretty good. That said I'd also give it a 6, cause it's too long, can be dull and dragging and yeah, I also have my issues with backing vocals on it at time.

Appreciate your review as always. On the topic of divorce albums: The Wheel by Rosanne Cash and Life is Messy by Rodney Crowell. Stunning albums by two great artists about their divorce.

Hey mark, if you haven’t checked it out already I honestly think the new imagine dragons might surprise you. It’s a significant step up from Evolve and Origins while the band goes to places they haven’t before.

Couldn't agree more with that score. This album set up so much and yet by Adele standards, it ended up pretty mid-tier. And yes, I also thought the backing vocals sounded abusively cheesy. I will stand up for "To Be Loved, " that song nearly brought tears to my eyes.

Bought this album (Adele) for my wife; played the first side did not operate, skipped, jumped, took it back to JB Hifi Malaga WA, got a new replacement, did the same thing, took it back and received my money back. Went to Serenity Morley WA; got the same album, played it and the same happened again, reading reviews on this album it looks like a lot of music lovers are not happy with this album as they are all complaining of the same problem. Will take the album back to Serenity tomorrow 15 Jan 22 and get a refund. Large amount of money for a defective music album in today's standards.
