Calculations and sources:

$10,700 per car per year x 286 million vehicles on the road ÷ 333 million people in the US = $9,000/ person/year. Savings for average household of 2.6 people is $23,100. [1][2][3][4]

Health savings: US average $11,000/year x 50% savings x 2.6 people per household = $14,300.[4][5][6]

Energy savings: 60% x $184/mo x 12 mo = $1,330 per household.[7][8]

"4x quieter" based on noise measurements by Not Just Bikes.[9] Bikes were generally 20 dB(A) quieter, which is 2x2=4 times quieter.

Cost savings NOT included in these calculations: even with their roofs and solar panels, the bike paths cost 6x less than roads and highways that carry the same number of people per hour. Apartments use half as much material as detached houses. There’s less stormwater runoff to manage on this smaller site, so water utility and insurance costs are lower. The apartment building requires just one lawnmower and leaf blower, vs. 30 for the detached houses. The built-in cafe, gym, library and maker space save the cost of a separate social club memberships.

Most Amaricans will work themselves to death just to get close to their dream of owning a single family home. There are obviously alot of problems with that, but failure to relize that means you'll never reach most amaricans by saying "let's make all thirty homes a single building"

🎤“Little boxes made of ticky-tack, little boxes all the same “ 🎶🏘️
This won’t work for Cities. Public transport needs a overhaul, in most areas and more green spaces. There definitely needs to be lots of smaller schools, that pool their funding, and share centralised sports fields & facilities, Pool and maybe library.
The YT Short would only work in suburbs, small towns or villages.
But Not everyone wants to live in little boxes (made of ticky-tacky, or have the same needs, & even in a household everyone has different needs, dad might work as a tradie & go in all directions for work, or did work close, lost it, & had to get a job elsewhere. Same for mum, also children’s lives take them lord knows. And that’s just one family’s movement needs. Someone’s idea of the ideal lifestyle, may not be someone else’s but ideal lifestyle. It’s just not practical to try an force people into literal boxes.

Not enough green space
Use one of those vacant lots and create that into a lawn and woodland
People won't use cafe all the time as people crave variations as with shops

This is a pure maniac understatement cuz it never happens this way in a real city!

I feel like you're miscalculating the space of those apartments but at least the idea is sound and great for cities, the noise however is a problem that's unlikely to be solved by this no matter what you will still be at the mercy of your neighbors

That’d be awesome. My city is starting to do more of this and it is much much better than a bunch of single family houses

Sounds great, if there are no cars how do the residents get to and from work? Or go on trips?

You’re advocating for cities. But then you need a public transit system, and all the things that cities offer, that’s pretty expensive, so housing costs will be higher than in the suburbs.

It’s a great concept for cities, but not everybody wants to live in a city

Who favours block apartment homes over suburban houses?

"If they have more than one child, there is no where to live. If they are disabled, they are stuck at home. If the owner of the slum is a slumlord, the building will fall apart. 😂 lets end landlords. That will solve all of this.

You lost me immediately when you forced everyone to live in the same building. No thanks. I'm not sardine in a can. I want a yard with my own garden. I would be happy to live in a pocket community with a community garden/pasture as well and with a pool. But I'm living above or below anyone. No thank you.

So strip them of their individual housing remove cars which no one wants to do and leave all that cleared space to rot because you know damn well it’ll take forever to grow trees got it
