It would be funny to adopt a swiss model when Switzerland isnt a part of it 😂

A federal united Europe would be a powerhouse on the global stage, but I’m afraid it wouldn’t be popular in favour of short term, individual goals that populists would go for instead.

The EU at the moment is like the holy roman empire, surrounded by large unified states, that we are struggling to compete with. India, china, brazil, the EAC, the USA, or ASEAN.

If Europe doesn’t want to be a U.S. or Russo-Chinese vassal region then some form of Federation is necessary.

I would love a federal EU. United we can stand alongside the US and China, divided we are helpless.

as a Pole, i'd like it. Combined we have our flaws, but also we're stronger.

i really stand behind the idea of a federal EU. I voted for VOLT last election, a PAN- European party. As someone posted here already: "Together we rise, divided we fall"

The Federal system is the best path for Europe, Imagine if Italy wants to make Marijuana legal but Finland does not. The Federal system allows for each to make their own local laws based on local population desires, and also have a unified central Government on top to share resources for better and more powerful military, and decision making, foreign relations, taxation, centralized spending on infrastructure that connects all of the EU together. Imagine if EU was able to collect EU wide taxes and fund big highway expansion to connect EU countries better. Just look at how bad the roads are connecting Czechia to Germany, let alone the rest of the EU, this leads to lack of efficiency, if you want to increase the economic power of Europe the easiest way is to pool resources for common goal to build faster, better connected EU. Less differences of taxes and cross border issues. Open the doors.

My opinion is that it works in US predominantly because they have a common language which unites them. Unity comes with clear communication. Unfortunately for EU, there is no common language. Nothing whatsoever which would be common and unite them. Except for the fact they are happening to be living in Europe. But that’s like arguing all countries in Asia should be a federation because they are on one landmass

Definitely one of your best vids so far.

Regardless of what other topics of interest you guys might discuss, full federalization should be a recurring one.

EU as it is right now is a shoal of small and medium size fishes, they can keep adding more small fishes but still wont matter, they don’t stand a chance against a shark. Europe must become a shark as well in order to survive.

The problem with this topic is that it is not technically debated. If not, it is already put into an ideological framework, "to be European is to be leftist." Then it can no longer be debated. For example: I am a Europeanist but I don't want a project without cultural identity and open borders, it seems that the EU only has those policies. So I have to vote for anti-European federation parties, but with better policies regarding education, culture and immigration. I don't know if I explained my point well.

I would rather have an EU similar to Germany than the US

The EU has been a bureaucratic nightmare from day one. There needs to be a massive democratic overhaul. The UK is a good example of how these little states of Europe cannot survive on their own.

A video on how applying the Swiss model to the EU would be very appreciated. Thank you for this introduction to European federalisation :)

That'd be a huge change and I think it is probably hard to completely oversee that change. But I would LOVE feeling more united to the rest of Europe.

As a "european citizen" this would create a Post Tito Yugoslavia rich with ethnic and religious tension. In the short term it would be benefitial indeed, but the state can't even with luck and extreme competency last longer then 40 years and it's dissolution would put the Yugoslav Wars to shame.

United EU would have so many advantages it's insane. Cooperation on so many different levels - for example immigration, pandemics, security. Not to mention it would guarantee our independence.
This is the way forward.

I honestly hope for an EU federation. Europe needs to act like a united front if it wants to stay strong. Also an more federalised Europe means fewer inefficiencies due to having 27 authorities over the same things (take international train rides, or tax policy).
