I once befriended a feral stray at my workplace. He never meowed, he hissed instead. It was the cutest thing, him hissing his morning greeting as I replenished his food and water, his tail straight up as he let me pet him frim nose to hips. He was a black one, too, smart as a whip.

I have a very small female cat and when she meows she sounds like a 60 year old man with a deep voice-

my little female cat caught a virus a couple of years back, and lost her miaow because of it. She has never regained her voice, but now does a croaky little 'meh', or a silent miaow where her mouth opens, but nothing comes out of it. Your black cat is gorgeous.
