Abstract class vs interface | difference between abstract class and interface

what is the difference between abstract class and interface.A very important differences beteween abstract class and interface which the interviewer is expecting from us.

I have 2 questions:

1.You said that an Abstract class is meant to be extended (inherited) by other subclasses.
But I think it also has another usage:
When you've got a class that only contains Public Static methods and variables useful for other classes, but not a single instance variable or instance method... Why not make that class Abstract??

2. If the above-mentioned is true, what's the difference in making such class Abstract or just making its constructor Private. Because that would also prevent making instances of a class.
