You can now buy your Renault Zoe battery lease! Yes you heard me correctly i theorised this might happen on an earlier video in the year however i didn't think it would happen this year thought it was more likely next year! However if your wanting a battery owned zoe rather than a battery leased Renault zoe you can now call RCI Renault and ask for a price to purchase the battery lease part of your electric Zoe.

I have a 2016 22kWh Zoe on a £49 per month battery lease. If I buy out the lease for £3800, that is equivalent to 6.5 years of monthly lease payments. I think I will wait for Renault make me a better offer!

As soon as they ditched the lease option on the ZE50 this was inevitable, It's happened a bit quicker than I expected but I think its a really good thing, long overdue.

Lease Zoe's are selling really well 2nd hand at the moment but mostly due to lack of choice & availability. In a couple of years with many more options on the used marked I think they will become very hard to sell with the lease. No one is going to want a 7 year old car they have to pay £50 battery rent on forever. (look at the Flex Leaf's, no one tries to sell them without removing the lease).

Once you get below the £3k price to buy it out I would say it's worth it, you will get a good chunk of it back when you sell. Of all the things that could go wrong on a Zoe the battery itself is pretty far down the list so I would be happy with the 3 years warranty left on a 15 plate. 3 years of lease payments is a minimum of about £1800. That's going to pay for some pretty major repairs if something goes wrong and if nothing does it's better in your pocket than Renaults.

If they are wanting to get out of the leasing business, then maybe the best policy is to just wait for a while, as they may reduce the cost later to encourage people to buy out.

Lol - "tyre puncture repair relay" ! Was that reference to my double-blowout recentl 😊 Thanks for the information as ever Nick. I'm going to keep my lease running on my Luigi Motors 2015 22kWh exactly for the breakdown reason. Also, I don't need to buy out the lease just yet unless RCI remove the breakdown cover. Yes, I know I could source that cheaper elsewhere, but realistically I financed the Zoe for X years and I'm not topping that up to buy out the battery. Finally, I keep my cars pretty much until they die, so I won't benefit from a possible higher re-sale price. Cheers Nick!

Nick great video. My 3 year lease ends soon, not sure what to do, I think use carry on with current lease.

Great video as always, got a new subscriber here. The main reasons I started to consider it were 1) Ive used a local EV friendly great garage recently for last 2 annual services (rather than the local "Renault dealer" Arnold Clark who are awful) and Im worried this possibly is against the terms of the battery lease and 2) Im just anticipating it being an absolute nightmare to try and sell a 2016 40KW Zoe (which also has very minor bodywork damage 🤦‍♂️) stuck with a battery lease. Worried ive got a ticking timebomb on my hands haha

Honestly when I got my Zoe I thought the leasing option sounded ridiculous, gladly I was able to buy out the battery

Nice one, doing the right thing and buying a ZE50, although I wish I had similar breakdown benefits as the wifes 68 plate Zoe

We explained nick, the zoe guru ! Im still not a fan of the zoe or the battery lease, but at least rci are giving folk the option now, does this option apply to ZE Kangoo and Twizy ????

My thoughts as well. I won't be buying mine (October 2014, 22kWh Q210) out as I wouldn't get the money back when selling it and I'd rather have some warranty on the battery side than nothing at all.. I tempted to keep it as a cheap second car going forward.. I wouldn't get much for it thanks to my maintenance of it.. And I like it to much!! 😉

Very informative video as usual! People have already asked about Twizy and Kangoo - do you know whether this in principle applies to Fluence ZE as well?

Thanks we have been looking at Renault zoes on a 15000 budget and kind find one that is battery owned.
You've explained that very well. Would you recommend a Nissan leaf.? Ugly as F

Very interesting thank you. At that price I'll stick with the lease, buying out would take 5 1/2 years to break even.

The 4.0 price doesn't seem to bad. But for my 2016 it isn't worth buying it out. I wonder if I keep running out of battery and getting free collections would they offer it at discount lol

Suspect this is Renault's opening position. If they really are trying to wind down the battery leasing business expect them to offer better terms at some stage.
