TRIP REPORT | This New SWISS is Much Better! | Vienna to San Francisco (via ZRH) | SWISS Boeing 777

SWISS Trip Report flying from Vienna to San Francisco (via Zurich) onboard one of SWISS Boeing 777 and an Edelweiss A320 on a lovely spring day.

A very comfortable trip from Vienna to San Francisco onboard the Swiss Boeing 777-300ER. The flight from Vienna to Zurich was operated by Edelweiss. While doing the check-in I got a very good upgrade to business offer, so the first flight of this trip was in business class and the long one on the SWISS B777 economy class.

After an interesting planespotting session in Vienna, we boarded the Edelweiss A320 that would take us to Zurich. It was a beautiful flight, following the Alps until reaching Zurich. The sky was clear during the flight, allowing us some amazing views of the lakes and mountains around.

The connection was very easy, we took the underground train to the satellite terminal and in less than 20 minutes we were from one gate to the other. After watching some planes there, we boarded the Boeing 777 that would take us to San Francisco.

We took off towards the southeast. After a beautiful climb out over the city and some amazing views of the Alps, we started our route to California. We flew over Germany before entering the North Sea, flying directly towards Greenland.

We crossed Greenland at a very high latitude, enjoying some amazing frozen landscapes, and flew over Baffin Bay, which was a huge piece of ice, towards Canada. The views of the Nunavut area were, once again, fantastic. It just looks like another planet...It's incredible. We crossed all of Canada and entered the US close to the West Coast. We left Portland on our right and flew in direct course towards San Francisco, where we landed on time after a beautiful approach over the Bay.

About the onboard service, on the first flight, we got a cold meal. Fair for a 1-hour flight in the mid-morning. On the long-haul flight, we first got a full warm meal. Everything was pretty tasty, showing that also SWISS has started to recover a good level of onboard service like the other Lufthansa Group airlines.

During the flight, they served a small ice cream and 3 hours later a small sandwich. 2 hours before landing they served a small warm quiche which was "the second meal" of the flight, definitely not at the level of the rest of the flight.
