Melissa & Alex's Story | Spent: Looking For Change

With two kids and two incomes, Melissa and Alex had a happy, healthy home. When Alex was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and their son Jonah was diagnosed with autism, financial struggles led the family to being kicked out of the banking system.

Struggling to support their household and provide their son with necessary treatment, Alex and Melissa took out a payday loan to cover the expenses. Over the course of three years, they paid $1,700 in fees for taking out a one-time loan of $450.

"Spent: Looking For Change" follows the stories of everyday Americans who don't have access to affordable basic financial services.

The film is executive produced by award-¨winning filmmaker Davis Guggenheim (Waiting for Superman, An Inconvenient Truth, It Might Get Loud). It is narrated by award-¨winning actor, writer and filmmaker Tyler Perry, and directed by Derek Doneen.
