The body of the late former military ruler Pervez Musharraf, who passed away in Dubai, will be repatriated to Pakistan today.

The Foreign Office is facilitating the transportation of his mortal remains, with missions in the UAE in contact with his family.

Musharraf took power in a coup in 1999 and ruled Pakistan until 2008. He died at the age of 79 due to amyloidosis, a rare and serious illness caused by amyloid buildup in organs and tissues.

His body will be flown back to Pakistan and laid to rest in Karachi.

The Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai has issued a no-objection certificate to facilitate the repatriation process.

The former dictator had been in critical condition for months and left Pakistan for medical treatment in 2016.

He was sentenced to death by a special court for suspending the Constitution, but the decision was suspended by the Lahore High Court.
