What is a Finger Tapping Test? #pots #dysautonomia #braininjury #KeiserClinic

The finger tapping test involves having a person open their hand and tap their thumb and index finger together as quickly and widely as possible. This test is part of the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale, but it is also used to assess brain injuries, concussions, and autonomic problems. The test looks at factors like whether the tapping stays rhythmic and consistent over 10 taps, as well as whether the person exhibits any mirroring movements in their mouth or tongue. Asymmetric performance between the left and right hands can indicate unilateral neurological issues, which require different treatment strategies compared to global brain effects.

I had a TBI back in 2016, large piece of metal(about the size of 4 inch thick laptop, it was an off curb cable box) from a car accident.

I told the Doctors that I could feel my finger tips when I was in the hospital, but in the years post accident I've noticed my nerve endings don't even really feel the same on the tips as they use to.

Anyway, as I was doing this exercise during the short, I felt I had been noticing my whole mouth/jaw slightly moving! Very interesting and quite comical! Thank you for this information, and your research! ❤

Dude, I’ve been going through your videos. I just started doing this as a warm up because I couldn’t do the other tests.. THEN I SEE THIS AS I’M DOING IT!

As a guitar player I've always wondered why we involuntarily move our mouths whenever we solo or improv.

I’m damaged from Covid and Covid vaccine with orthostatic intolerance, breathing issues, severe gut issues, and about 50 other daily symptoms. I can only sit for a few minutes or walk about 30 seconds. When I look straight in these positions and move my eyes from side to side my tongue moves too. So similar to the hand test, but moving my eyes in an upright position

What does it mean if my tongue is moving ?

I got little jerks in my taps, mid-tap. I also did a spiral test... there's an involuntary rhythmic jerk as I finish, whether spiraling out or in. If I go super slow and calm, like I am doing an injection or taking a photo, I can get a small smooth spiral. But on closer inspection, there are still wavy patterns 😂

I have Narcolepsy and Epilepsy. I am sure something is interesting happening, but I am on too many meds to be certain it isn't a side effect. So many things are going wrong at once that I have to prioritize, and so far I can cope with my tremors.

I also have visible little jerks in longer penstrokes, so I write smaller with flourishes that hide jerking movements by making them seem intentional.

Coping skills are so important ❤ Quality of life helps everything heal.

Um, my dominant hand is fine but my non dominant ie left 🖐️ fails horribly.

I can tap fast for a few seconds, after that my mouth twists right up hold my breathe, squirm hard on my seat and I watch as my fingers move slower and slower...

To the point it feels near to impossible, for me to squeeze them together 😢

Could that be from neck injury as well; so many questions. 🤔

Thanks for the vid

Oh shit. Right hand fine. Left hand my tongue got involved. Ive had 4 concussions.
One was a car wreck. I was unconscious 20 minutes.
TBH I like being alone. Finally stopped drinking for over a year. Now I've got something else to worry about 😮
