Plevne is a city in bulgary. During the 93 war Osman Pasha defended this city with 20 thousand soldiers against 120 thousand Russian soldiers for 6 months. When he ran out of ammunition and food, he had to surrender.

I have a great interest in the ww1 Ottoman army, and thus many books. I have always thought that though it failed the 1915 attack by three strong columns on the Suez Canal was an amazing military feat. Just getting there was an awful hardship.
