That's fun. Cute update. Doesn't have to have much of a purpose. They could make it "canon" in that it's a hallucination/trick, because it's not that out of keeping with the game's style and setting (Lovecraftian, eldritch babies), but whether or not it is, it's just a fun little bonus thing to do and it's a nice treat for the holidays.

Superhorrorbro, the logs have changed. They have a lot of importance on the lore of this chapter. They’re distorted and whispery. But you you can make out “wake up… wake up…” “none of this is real…” “open your eyes…”. and that’s also an explanation on the ending, when you interact with newt the text says “wake up”.

The ending is actually different! The doctor didnt save us in the normal ending, and the "not this time" implies its happend MANY times before.
