At this stage Bruce was holding his lead hand out and in a set position when he fought. But later he just relaxed and was not set but ready.

He knew what he was doing. Bruce was good at long range distance fighting, and he had exceptional timing and precision during his time. He was the modern MMA fighter at his period and would've beaten probably 90% of people with just his weight class no doubt about it.
