Hard Work, on the Hard--Part One

I haul the boat out for painting and maintenance once a year, but the mast only comes out about once every five years. Well the five years since the last pull is up, so ... I also discuss usual haulout issues such as dealing with blisters, sanding and prepping the hull for painting, repairing some damaged brightwork (the rudder head, in this case), and painting the topsides.

I don't think I'll ever have a wooden mast, or a wooden boat Kevin, but it is terrific watching someone who loves his traditional boat taking such great care of it.  Thanks for the fascinating tutorial.

You make dealing with that mast and all of its components seem like a walk in the park. I truly wouldn't know where to begin. I also like the way you initiate the job clearly enough for viewers to know what's what, then cut to a later stage. No wasted self-indulgence, or idiotic speeded up sequences, and no blasted musak. Just patience, knowledge and practical method. Well done.

You could add linseed to the varnish/thinners too!!

This is by far the best true sailing channel on Youtube. There is no fluff, but just a solid insight into being a true mariner. We sail our Wharram catamaran engineless as well, because having an auxiliary just takes any and all of the romanticism, reward, and self confidence that having to be in tune with the immediate environment and constantly aware brings about. Keep them coming, man!

Kevin you are making Tom Gillmer and Meede proud, you are a true mariner in every detail. Fair Winds from the crew of Celtic Lady Seawind II 68K.

Videos everyone wanting to sail should watch. Amirable the work you do and the way you sail, anchor, dock and present the videos. Thank you. Not sure if you can change titles of videos. Like 'boat repairs Ep 4',
Or 'Ep 10 dock without motor.' I think many many more thousands would want to watch you.

A great video.
If I find rot, I saturate it in blue antifreeze (ethylene glycol) to kill spores. Then let it dry for a day or two.
If gap filling, I tend to add filler to the epoxy to give better strength.
Thanks for the tips about sanding with the hose pipe.
You seem to be putting paint on top of old paint. This might give too much thickness?
I liked the scarf work.

If you apply half the epoxy to the mast first, the exchange of air/epoxy is negated. Top off with the other half of the epoxy and roll into the fibre. You will get a better soak, not applying too much epoxy.
Watch from 7:30 in Tech Ingredients’ video called ‘Easy tricks using Fibreglass Strengthening’.

A great single handed YouTube channel. Great boat. GAF. Looks like a gem that is basic, but blue cruiser.

This channel Isn't so much entertainment, bikinis and Martini's as it is documentary/educational. I dig the straight shooter vibe.

You know I have to be honest here. I just don’t miss those days in the yard! But your methodology system is working rather nice. You apparently previously have set up the bottom and topside paint work so it’s not too big of a job. I love that wood mast it is a beauty! Good job and take care,

Looks like you have system for the haul out and move right through it. I hope you don't find any big problems.

Thank you for your documentations and tutorials. Have you considered a wind generator? Power available day and night, for less than $170.00 for 300 watt. Might be a useful addition since the mast is down. Blessings.
