In this digital inking tutorial I will show you how to turn a sketch into vector using a few digital inking techniques and the free online tool MockoFun:

MockoFun Doodler mode allows easy vector drawing using smooth brush strokes. Upload your sketch photo and start your ink drawing in a layer over your sketch image. In the end, hide the sketch photo and you will be able to download your inking art as a SVG vector image.

I have drawn a simple sketch of an emo girl playing with her spiders. The digital inking tips in this tutorial are perfect if you are into comic inking or comic book illustrations.

The Doodler module is a very easy to use tool for creating doodle sketches. You can draw free hand or you can upload a sketch as guide.

Either way, this tutorial will get you familiar with the tool so you will learn how to digitize a drawing and how to turn a drawing into a digital image. The digital image can be downloaded as a SVG vector image or a standard raster image depending on your needs.

The options in MockoFun Doodler are very flexible and though you can draw with multiple colors, for this tutorial I chose to do only black sketch pen drawing. Using only black ink is referred to in illustration theory as black pen art or black pen painting. It's probably the most used pen doodle art technique as it doesn't require changing colors all the time.

Nevertheless, once you finish your digital black you can black pen drawing you can print it and color it with watercolors or you can even color it inside MockoFun also using the Doodle vector painting tool.
