This kit is certainly not the Tamiya Panzer II kit of old...you know the one. The kit from the 70's with the North Africa seen on it? This kit was all new and completely new tooling in 2008 and it shows. Link & length track, high detail, crisp parts it is beautiful and can be had very affordably now just check the link below:

Very helpful, I built the old kit many years ago. Looking forward to this one.

I am new to the hobby in terms of tanks, and I built this tank as a first, and I have to say it was a breeze and fun kit to build. Best regards, Basile

This was one of my first armor kits back in 2009. It sat in my closet until January this year when I built it. It goes together really nicely, I just wish I'd known what I was doing more when I built it. Those link and length were my first exposure to tracks that weren't rubber band and I don't think I was ready. But it is very nice, as is the StuG III B with PE and a metal barrel Tamiya put out around the same time.

nice vid Andy! Can I just say the 1971 kit was the Ausf.F/G version, used in North Africa, which had a piece on the back of the turret, as apposed to this version (A.B, C) France, Poland, Russia. So I guess some people might say why build that when you can build this one, but just saying they do look different if your collecting German WWII tanks, so both would be cool. Oh and the 1971 version's suspension is molded into the hull as apposed to the usual Tamiya practice from the 80's of making the suspension separate.

Very good review TJE. The new Tamiya kits are very good. I remember the old DAK Pzkw II from Tamiya. This looks like a great kit. To answer your question, the Ghost Division was the 7th Pz Division commanded by Rommel. It was referred to as the Ghost Division because the GHC was often not aware of its location on the battlefield due to Rommel's rapid movements. David

Rhomboid shaped PE parts are indeed number plates for tanks, i have it on my Marder 2 tank destroyer from Tamiya, one plate
on each side and one on the rear.Decals for plates also included.

I believe the rhomboid shaped PE plates as you called them are for tank numbers, early panzers had these plates usually on the side of the hull with the tank number on them.

Nice review too!

Thanks for clarifying that this is a new tool kit, as I always thought it was a re box of the original tooling.  I now think I will get one.  I too like Tamiya, especially compared to Dragon ( which usually have fit problems ), and I am challenged enough with painting and weathering.

I just posted my own video for this very model!!  I got this kit as a gift and I'm excited to finish it.  The only thing confusing to me as a new builder is that the tracks are fixed in place, yet the road wheels are free to move.  My other Tamiya kits came with rubber tracks so that you could move the model after building it.  Seems odd to leave the road wheels free to spin, but have to glue the track in place.  Some day, when I plan on another kit, I could see purchasing my own flexible track, just wish it came in this kit.  Thanks for the video!
