In the 1930s, my mom was suspended from school because, in her fashion and design class, she designed a cocktail dress that exposed the knee. We have the drawing on our wall.
My last 2 years in HS I ended up with a lot of rich kids and when one of the elites asked me where I got my shirt, I said it was tailor-made.

I was in absolute stitches Be Amazed when you did the mock horrified voice and animation for the bare leg at 23:00 😂😂 As for the purple garage door being illegal, I'd be in real trouble, my front door, garage door and gate are all in your face Cadbury purple 💜😮 Life's too short for boring colours 😂😂 Great video, highly entertaining as ever, cheers me dear 😊

Ever time I hear a weird law, I know there is an equally weird thing that happened to cause it to be made. We don't print "Do Not Eat" on the incredible list of non edible objects for sale. It was listed on the side of a bag of wood chips used for meat smoking. So....what clown ate the wood chips???

In Oregon (it's since been changed) your car had to have working windshield wipers, but you didn't need to have a windshield

In Canada we had a t.v. show called this is the law. It was funny because sometimes they pretended something was a law when it wasn't. You had to figure out if it was a real or not.

Oliver Cromwell also banned Football, drinking, hunting, theater, dancing and gambling. Ironically he enjoyed a lot of these things himself!

On Svalbard, it is illegal to die.
This law is still used today.
The reason is that it's really difficult to bury someone due to permafrost.
And a corpse won't decay if buried.

I 'm glad you mentioned Canada. When I was a boy in the 1960's there was a T.V. show titled "This is the Law." A actor would play in a short film where he broke one law. There was a panel of guests who had to guess which law was being broken - such as it is illegal to sell a painted wooden ladder, or you are not allowed to wash you car on the streets during winter in Winnipeg.
I have been trying to find some of those shows.

Kanata also banned clothes lines. That was repealed when they joined Ottawa

Recently a strange By-law was actually activated in London UK, when they had to lower hay bales down from a bridge in London. It sounds strange, but there is reason for it.

The bridge in question was undergoing maintenance and the stands the workers had to be on to do the work were low enough to affect how much headroom boats would have. But the river was still open to boats so they were still passing under it. As a result, the by-law was triggered and they had to lower Hay bales over the bridge. The point is that it serves as a warning to oncoming boats that there's less headroom.

I wonder if they can use something other than hay bales in the modern age? since the by-law has been around for hundreds of years apparently

I remember reading the "don't scare the monarch" one in a book of weird Canadian laws once when I was younger. I think another one from that book is that in Souris, PEI, you can't build a snowman any taller than a certain height (kinda forgot how tall). I think the title of the book is something like "You can't do that in Canada".

"Making Christmas illegal"

Sounds like that Rankin-Bass classic "Santa Claus is Comin' To Town". Anyone remember that film?

In Denmark there is a law, which is technically still in effect.
(paraphrased) it states that if a Swede walks across the ice in Øresund, any Dane is allowed to beat him with a stick.
The law comes from when Denmark and Sweden were at war, and there was a particularly hard winter, which caused Øresund to freeze over, making it possible for the Swedish army to just walk over to Denmark.
So a law was put in place that it was perfectly legal for a Dane to beat any Swede, who walked across Øresund, with a stick.

Mauritian law bans insulting an extinct species or insulting people using extinct species names as an insult. The law also gives you a 850$ fine, and an 1500$ fine for insulting their national bird, the dodo. Alongside this, using their national bird as an insult.
