How To Check If a Snooker Cue Is Bent / Twisted / Warped Or straight. Don’t Roll It On The Table!

Thanks mate, this has put my mind at ease. I've recently received my 3/4 snooker cue from a little shop in Forrest Hill after waiting 19months. And to my dissapointment had about a 2mm roll out. It does however sight perfectly straight.

I roll the cue on 2 rulers.
Firstly i roll it on a ruler at mid L, & with a ruler near the butt.
If the cue has a joint at mid L then have the ruler on the butt side of the joint.

Nextly moov the ruler at mid L to near the qtip.
I mark the pozzy of the bend with permanent marker.
Here i mean i draw a dot at 12 o'clock or at 2 o'clock etc.
The pozzy of the bend along the L is of course important too (this needs its own chapter).
Uzually with an older cue the arrows going away show u the bend, ie cues bend/dry such that the bend follows the grain. Probly moreso with ash cues than maple.

A major thing is the taper of the shaft.
I make a mark at 300mm (my natural bridge L) & a mark at 200mm, & i measure the dia at 200 & 300.
The difference might be say 0.7mm on some cues & as much as say 1.4mm on other cues.
Players with a leaning bridge Vee are affected by larger tapers. The taper might help, or it might hurt.
My bridge Vee leans to the right a hell of a lot. Hence different cues put more rhs on my shots.

Nextly, i check the ferrule.
If your cue has a ferrule then it show that the q-maker is ignorant.
No cue needa a ferrule of any kind (ie metal or plastic). (This needs its own chapter).
However some players might i guess play better if the cue has a heavy ferrule (at least for some shots).

I have made several cues and they are straight... and you can tell they are straight when you roll them on a table... continue rolling guys...

Use V block with rollers and watch the tip..
