It was a cold night in January, the kind of cold that makes your bones ache and your hair stiffen up. I couldn't tell where the smoke I blew out ended and the fog of breath began. A lit cigarette was the only light in the room, and the only light I had left in my life. I came inside and turned on the phonograph, jazzy music the kind that makes you sit in the dark and come up with monologues. I laid on the bed, cigarette in my mouth and ash falling on my shirt. The pinhole burns on the sheet underneath me reminded me I couldn't succumb to the warm embrace of sleep yet. I thought to myself, if I can't be trusted to not burn my sheet; then what can I trust in this damned dirty city?

I discovered this on Christmas 2020 and it's perfect - it gave me the inspiration and the confidence to write and publish my noir/detective novel, inspired by the excellent game L.A. Noire and some of the greatest film noirs of the 1940s. I'm so excited to start writing my novel and I know this live stream will be a huge help! Please, never delete it!
