Marty you've helped me go from not being able to play a bar chord into channeling my soul through the guitar all up and down the neck. I love that you recognize phish and how unique and amazing Trey Anastasio is. Maybe hes not the best at it now but that band would pretty much write brand new songs during a good improv in the 90s, taking musicianship to a whole new level in my opinion. Now that I can actually imitate his style and licks (somewhat), it has become a dream come true! Thanks!

Another great lesson. This is one of the big problems I have when improvising, repeating ideas and leaving spaces. Most of the time, I'm too anxious too play new licks I learned and don't stop to listen to the beat or the music. Thanks for the great lesson.

Marty Rocks ! Hey Marty .. I was just watching John Mayer video live of him playing "Who Did You Think I Was" ( at Crossroads concert 2010 ) and then your video mentioned the repeating simple phrase and that is the key to what he did in that song. As always your advice is right on. John Mayer is so insanely good .. what a video !

Great video, Marty! This one in particular is very informative. Aside from looking for my tone, I've been trying to work on my phrasing as well. The one tip about "creating motifs" was particularly helpful because it just makes sense! And If you haven't already done so, you should make a thorough video about amps and their settings. I think that would help me and a whole bunch of other people out who are just buying their first amp. Always looking forward to your next video, man!
