It's always sad when a UK theme park is seen struggling, recently has been tough times for the tourist industry with the effect of Covid-19 in recent years for many smaller UK parks not owned by big company's being still very prominent. Oakwood in Wales home to two major coasters Speed and Megafobia is a park that appears to be struggling financially with a reported £2.3 million loss in 2023 compared to £700,000 profit in the previous year. With recent incidents at the park like the Bounce drop tower accident and the Treetop coaster incident a few years ago. However in a funny twitter post, a person wearing a RMC high vis can be seen taking photos of Megafobia... haha very funny, but please can we have a RMC in the UK... please!!

Rides:

Megafobia - Wooden roller coaster
Speed: No Limits - Steel roller coaster
Drenched - Water roller coaster
Bounce - Shot and drop tower
Vertigo - Skycoaster
Waterfall - High-speed water slide

Treetops - Family roller coaster
Creepy Crawler - Indoor family roller coaster
Pirate Ship - Swinging ship ride

What do we all think the future of oakwood looks like?

I have heard rumours, if Oakwood did close, Looping group would supposedly buy it. They like to buy parks which are about to close.

I live near Oakwood, it would be very sad if Oakwood closes. Its my favourite place in Pembrokeshire. If it closes it will be a great loss for the local community.

I think oakwood is safe, i just think a new chain needs to buy them. Get rid of their temporary rides, build a new standout coaster to bring the crowds.

It will close in the not too distant future. We went in around May last year during half term (when Megafobia wasn’t open, granted) and we didn’t have to queue for any ride; I remember we were able to keep running back up the steps to ride snake river falls several times, and the Tree Tops was so empty they just let people ride twice each time, which was pointless as the same people just looped back to ride again after getting off. Also Splash (Drenched now? I’ll call it Splash) wasn’t open. We actually got the tickets for May carried over for “free” as the November before when we went all the big rides were closed due to high winds, which makes you think if that happens a few times during a year that must set them back financially.

It’s s shame because it was really busy and thriving at one point (looking at 90s and early 00s when it was in its prime), however I fear it’s days are numbered, and I do believe that the long-term closures of both Splash and Megafobia have not helped, not to mention the incidents with Splash, and more recently Tree Tops, and the media storm that followed each of those. The fact that Bounce breaks down practically on the hour doesn’t help either, but it’s done that since it opened. I also can’t help but feel that the refurbishment of Megafobia was too little too late.

I haven’t been there this year however, so can’t comment on whether foot fall has improved, especially now as Megafobia is back open, and when my daughter went with the school last month she did say it was full and they had 1+ hour long queue waits for some rides, however she also said that on this day the park was full entirely, and seemingly exclusively, of school-age students on trips from all different schools, so arguably this is no reflection on their general open days.

So yeah, I wish the park well, and hope it picks up again, but ultimately fear that in a few years time we will be watching videos on here made by urban explorers going around abandoned Oakwood.

With Oakwood being my local park although i haven't been in a while I do vividly remember it. I'll be honest, their current problem isn't lack of built rides/coasters, but the lack of them being open. But its not even that, its the atmosphere and environment, it's grey, dull, and there's a huge lack of excitement if I'm being honest. If they're looking to make an investment they need a full scale rebrand. Its super sad to see though as they're charging similar admission to Alton towers for a declining park. I'd blame it on COVID, fingers crossed! 🤞

Sounds like Walibi Holland, who just made a profit since 2003 in 2023 back again. Walibi Holland has the benefit of being backed up by a very large investor to keep the park alive. But a park that was build to host 1.300.000 visitors at a minimum, only getting 900.000 is a perfect scenario for disaster. I do not know the exact numbers for Oakwood, but if that is a similar story, maybe a big park group could benefit for this park with a bit of funds to back up the park?

They need a Raptor esk ride. Something ground up that's gonna draw in families and enthusiasts. Also if they was to RMC Megaphobia it would imo harm the park more then benefit it.

I love Oakwood and if it does close I might not go there again as my mum thinks it’s “not safe”

They should do these things

Rmc Megafobia
Open drenched all year round
Improve the appearance of the park
Have a safety inspection (especially that one)

Oakwood is a great park I love is so much but if this news is fake this video needs to be removed because it could make someone feel sad also I am going there in a few weeks and think people shouldn’t be able to post about this like for instance people are saying Oakwood is the worst rated theme park and is is very hard to believe that so this is just me saying my thoughts. If anyone agrees please give this comment a like
