In a game I umpired, the ball went off the bat and straight into my ball bag. No one knew where it was until a fan yelled, "it's in your ball bag"!

I saw something similar during a Hockey game a few years ago. The line judge hopped up on the dasher board to get out of the way of the puck, and it simply disappeared. It was in the back pocket of the line judge!

Better question is why did the catcher look opposite to where the ball was going? Watch the ball all the way into the glove and you won’t have to hunt for it.

I used to ump little league, high school, etc. I had fouls get stuck in my mask twice, and a missed pitch lodged between the bottom of the mask and the chest protector.

Runners advance one base. What if the umpire wasn't there? It was a passed ball going to the back and runners, if any, were going to be able to advance a base. OK, it is a dead ball and umpire should estimate what was going to be the result of the play. As mentioned, Passed ball, runners advance one base
