Benjamin Netanyahu ‘in a dilemma’ over Israel-Hamas war: Malcolm Davis

ASPI Senior Analyst in Defence Strategy Malcolm Davis says Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing a tough “dilemma” over what steps to take next in resolving the Israel- Hamas war.

“He’s in a dilemma in the sense that if he submits to that pressure and brings the war to a halt If Hamas are still intact… we will be facing further October 7 attacks in the future," Dr Davis told Sky News Australia.

“So, I think Israel does have to achieve its goal which is to destroy Hamas.

“But they also have to achieve it in a way that doesn’t create more opposition to Israel.”

Dr Davis’ comments come as Israel faces growing opposition to their war tactics in Gaza, including US President Joe Biden who has taken issue with Israel’s “indiscriminate bombing.”

The only dilemma here is that Sky News needs to drum up a story out of thin air and can't seem to get it right. Netanyahu is quite capable of dealing with this as are the Israeli's. Everyone's an expert on Israel these days and everyone seems to think they know what's going on. They don't, most of the time.

Netanyahu knew all along that he would be sacrificing his position to destroy Hamas. Even if he has to spend the rest of his days in secret exile, he will accept that fate to complete the job required to dismantle the hate next door.

You might be an anti-Semite if you’ve been calling out Israel for their war against Hamas, in which Israel has made a greater effort to protect civilians than any other armed conflict in history, while saying nothing about the 6 other ongoing wars around the world that have each caused 10s of thousands of direct, violent deaths this year alone and 100s of thousands of deaths overall.

You might also be an antisemite if you’ve been calling out Israel for their war against Hamas, which Hanas started by savagely killing, raping and butchering 1400 innocent Israelis as well as kidnapping 200 more innocent Israelis, most of whom are still being held and tortured by Hamas, while saying nothing about Hamas surrendering to end the war - where are all of the marches, demonstrations and public condemnations calling for Hamas to surrender, which would almost instantaneously end the war?

You might also be an antisemite if you’ve been calling out Israel for their supposed genocide in Gaza when Israel has agreed to a two state solution at least 5 times over the past 75 years during which time the population in Gaza has increased by over 1000%, while saying nothing about Hamas’ intended genocide of Israel as they have clearly stated in their charter and demonstrated by their refusal of a two state solution and their onhoing targeting of Israeli civilians as well as the other ongoing genocides that have killed 100s of thousands if not millions of people in Myanmar, Darfur, Iraq, Syria and China, where they have millions of people in literal concentration camps.

He and IDF didn’t initiated Criminal Investigation onto how Hamas Fighters intruded into the world’s highly protected area. I smell the spice in IDF team who were working with Hamas. My heart goes out for innocent US tax payers who shell out 50 billion dollars for Security upgrades, time and again they’re taken for a ride by US Congress.

Interviewee said (2:44): "The Palestinian people... A path to achieve their desired goals, which I think is a two state solution"

That's the crux of the issue. In more or less every opinion poll I've seen, the majority of Palestinians still voice their belief that Israel and the majority of Israelis would somehow disappear and they'll establish a state over the entire territory. It's sadly not very clear at all that there's any significant appetite in the Palestinian citizenry for any kind of compromise that includes Jewish sovereignty, let alone a two state solution, as an actual long-term end goal.

Sadly, this sentiment is strongly enforced and carried out to the next generations by the PA/UNWRA education systems, the Arab (and esp. Palestinian) media and in recent years (certainly since the Obama administration, but EU was there first), that anti-compromise sentiment is also strongly enforced by the west as well.

Israel gave gaza to Palestinians in 2005 for a land for peace deal. In which time over 20.000 rockets have been fired from gaza into israel

"a dilemma"? That doesn't mean what you think it does. Netanyahu in interview stated he wanted Gaza ethnically cleansed! He planned the crime and wants to see it through!

His main dilemma is 'how to empty the Gaza Strip'. If only he could convince Egypt to open their border then he could fully concentrate on $$$ GAZA MARINE $$$. Clearing the West Bank of Palestinians would be a doddle - he could rely on armed settlers to do that.

The Bible teaches that the Devil comes to steal, kill, and destroy.
Don't steal your neighbour's lands
Don't kill your neighbours
Don't destroy your neighbour's properties
