My 96 Passat TDI was the best car I've ever owned. I was rear ended and it was totaled. 450k on it and still ran like a tank

I'm not sure if you've noticed it Scotty, but there has been something on your lense for several episodes now causing a blurry spot on the left hand center of the screen. Just letting you know, and keep up the great work!

P.S. It's on the camera that you use outside.

I owned one diesel that was a VW TDI in my life. Paid $4, 500 for it with 227, 00 miles. Sold it 5-year later for $2, 500 with 337, 000 miles on it. It did not need any oil added in VW recommended 10, 000 mile oil changes. Got typically 48 mpg.

Those TDIs were fantastic engines. It's a shame the scandal happened and they stopped selling them here in North America. For a daily driver you can't really go wrong with one of them, they have the low end passing torque and the fuel economy, comfortable, quiet, and they handle great.

Get the standard transmission not the automatic. I have a cop friend that's got over 600, 000 miles on a TDI Jetta with a stick.

“People wreck cars all the time! Now let’s take it for a spin and see how it does..”
Now that’s a line which would get my blood pumping. Delivered deadpan too.

I love diesel engines, so sad to see how much they are trying to get rid of them, especially here in europe

Having a TDI (& manual) is the only reason my VW is still going strong. 307k miles and counting on my MK4 Jetta.

I have been driving VWs since 1973 and was always anti-diesel. But when VW and the government settled dieselgate in 2017 the dealers had some 2015 Sportwagen TDIs that had been in storage due to the diesel embargo. Being from 2015 they were considered to be old so VW offered incentives to help the dealers dump them. I got a 2015 Sportwagen TDI with a manual and 87 miles on the odometer. We got $5000 off, 0% interest, and a 10yr/120k mile factory warranty. Accounting for inflation it is the cheapest new car I have ever bought ($19k). It is enough fun to drive and fast enough that I sold my 2006 GTI. The mpg is exceptional. I average in the upper 40s around town and 55 mpg when doing 75 mph. The 13.5 gallon tank can go over 700 miles when travelling. I don't believe the Jetta in this video averages 65 mpg. Especially if it is picking up and dropping off passengers.
