If working off your debt in prison is forced labor then what do you call me having to work in order to pay my rent and my food? Prioritizing criminals is just crazy.

Prisoners cost California taxpayers over $100, 000 each per year according to online data. Make them work doing jobs nobody wants to do so we can at least get something out of them.
Furthermore, I want to vote anyone out of office who supports giving prisoners a free ride.

It’s constitutional, see 13th amendment. It’s not slavery: it’s an exception for criminals.

If one commits a crime and it’s proven, then pay for the crime.

There is talk of unionizing inmate workers, giving them “rights” and providing wages for their work.

Ridiculous.

PS

Take away any cell phones and cell phone usages too.

Should’ve thought about your family, before getting caught

Um wait how are they going to become reformed if we don’t offer work programs?

Prison is not meant to be a vacation. It is a punishment and is already costing tax payers. The least the prisoners can do is to earn some of those funds back.

We're forced to work for food and shelter, and our taxes pay $50, 000 per year to feed and house them. If you want to pay them, make them pay for their own food and housing and give me back the tax money.

Definitely don’t agree with this at all, you are repaying your debt to society and that includes labor. Yes, we need more rehabilitation systems in the prisons to help prepare for your future once you return to society. Earning time off for classes on improving yourself as a human being should definitely be considered along with continuing your education. Maybe special programs that may add a little more income after you have proven you are determined to make the best of everything that is available. This is tough love, and that is what’s required.💙👍

Prison is not a place that you want to revisit! Your free labor was the job you applied for happily. Now think how much damage you have created in families lives including you own family.

If I got to get up and go to work then I don't have a problem watching prisoners work their sentences off nothing is free in this world they should learn to work and know we all work for pennies when bills are all paid

They get free food and shelter. And if they were out they would need those things to and you would have to work like the rest of us. All humans should have to work unless they have a disability of some sort.
