The red hair thing is the percentage of the population that has viking blood in them. The traditional Irish look is dark hair and eyebrows. Think of a pale spaniard. The reason of this is because thousands of years ago when the land that is Ireland was first settled by humans, it was settled by an ancient race called the Milesians that originated from Spain. Hence traditionally we look like untanned spaniards. Think Colin Farrell as a classic example.
