Wow... 14.4 volts per cell.

I have that exact 2.7v 500F Supercapacitor and was playing around with it just half an hour ago and was astonished how you can use a little 1.2v AA battery to charge it up and the energy it can hold is amazing.

The idea of 14.4 volts for something of the same weight is impressive.

Slow and steady wins the race... just keep doing what you are doing...

For four and a half minutes, I sat watching steam rise from your coffee cup, Rob. This is how I could watch those videos of a little red propeller going around and around for half an hour. Better take a sip of that coffee before it gets cold!

CONGRATS - RMS.... you and the team deserve all the success possible.
.
Always had faith in you & your abilities, ... and expounded your knowledgeable entusiasmo to all who would listen.
.
FANTASTIC - JUST FANTASTIC.

as you get closer to production could you explain the form factor a bit more?
for instance : where are the contacts?
and to be clear this is the super-Capacitor not the battery you were showing off?

love your work!

Fantastic work Robert, so are these just paired in parralels to make strong batteries ?!

0:35 46g total weight 10cm x 10cm x 0.6cm = V = 60cm3
0:45 30mWh/g of finished device (which means that his cell should have 30mWh/g x 46g = 1.38Wh)
0:52 14.4V cell
1:04 peak charge current 6A (initial power = 14.4V x 6A = 86.4W, Internal resistance R = 14.4V/6A = 2.4ohm)
1:23 discharge test 30mA for 6~6.5h ~= 30mA x 6.5h = 195mAh (from 14.4V to 0V)

Assuming linear voltage drop on constant current discharge, this give us (14.4V x 195mAh)/2 = 1.4Wh
By weight this cell has 1.4Wh x 1000g / 46g = 30Wh/kg (lead acid battery has ~34Wh/kg)
By volume this cell has 1.4Wh / 60cm3 = 23mWh/cm3 (lead acid battery has 100mWh/cm3)
Energy per inner plates 1.4Wh/6 = 233mWh. By surface area it has 233mWh / 100cm2 = 2.33mWh/cm2 (this is remarkable in all carbon cells!).

So, it is almost at the level of the lead acid battery, but with much higher charge/discharge life cycle.
Nice work Robert, keep it up!

PS: One hint, take those carbon plates, put first LiCl in between, thread them at 3.6-4V for 2h (it will gas and intercalate).
Then wash out completely the LiCl and use those plates now in your configuration.
Let us know the results (in my case this extended the surface area by factor of ~10).

Congratulations. I love your enthusiasm. Looking forward to when I can get it in my cordless tools.

Well done Robert. If you have some free time, please charge that thing up fully and hang it on a 12 Volt 5 Watts Halogen lamp and film it constantly until the lamp goes dim. Would be interesting to see, how long it will last. Many thanks and good luck getting the cells into mass production.
Regards, Stefan.

Patrick Soon-Shiong, NantKwest zinc air battery made quite a bit of noise in the news these last few days. He made then for under $100 a kwh. Says lithium is dead. Can your battery be made for even less than his?

The PC104 form factor uses 90x96 mm boards. So, if you make it so your board can sandwich onto a pc104 blank with adhesive layers with room for the corner standoffs, then there will be a market for a supercapacitor that size.

Hi Robert. Will there be a webinar anytime soon?

Excellent, have you put a pack together to see how it performs?

As the battery gets better the sound gets worse. I will ponder on the relation between them. Congrats on you final product. Was it handmade or you used your line?

Hi Dear Robert! So Happy to see You have So Much Progressed again! :)) Also, I'm glad You made a cell without any plastic in it, which was a big objection for me. Major companies en groups of the world, still plane billions of dollars of market in li_ion market for electrical vehicles batteries, making a 100% might be imho, a way To Make Even More the Positive Difference. Best Regards, Didier

Outstanding! It is great to see the kind of energy storage devices in the works. I am REALLY looking forward to the battery workshop - just ordered the kit. I have a ton of questions - like what materials are in the kit (couldn't tell all of the ingredients from your last video), why zinc instead of grafoil for one of the conductors, how would you improve it, etc. I expect to get about 1/10 of my questions answered in the workshop -- but that's the fun of experimenting. Thanks, and "see you" in about a month!

hello Rob will it be possible to record the workshop the 27th because i will be at my job?thanks

These would be great placed underneath roof-top solar panels to buffer the difference between the energy from the sun and domestic energy use.
