Elon Musk recently shared a video on Twitter showing Tesla's Optimus Bot, a humanoid robot, folding laundry. This demonstration is part of Tesla's ongoing development of Optimus, initially unveiled in 2021. The robot is designed for tasks that are unsafe, repetitive, or boring for humans. Musk noted that Optimus isn't yet capable of autonomously performing tasks like shirt folding but aims for it to achieve such autonomy in various environments. Tesla's goals for Optimus include advanced tasks, like threading a needle by the end of 2024, showcasing significant progress in robotics.

Its controlled by a human with a glove and whatever it does with its glove its simulating ... the bot you saw didnt fold the clothes, the guy off screen did. You can even see at the ZERO second mark of this video where in very bottom left of the screen, you can see the guys glove move in the exact same motion as the bots right hand.

At this speed it would fold all our laundry probably in a day.. still faster than 5 days.. thats how much long i take today.

What's more boring? Folding the shirt or being the guy watching?

This will replace a lot of kids working at Hollister

I won’t lie, Optimus fold better clothes than some people I know.

As someone with a family, my personal litmus test for home robots is whether they can sort and fold laundry.

Looks like human jobs are still safe for a few more years 😂

Can we get it to pull weeds? As a homeowner I can hire someone to clean my house but I can’t hire someone to hand pull weeds because weeds, unlike laundry, grow exponentially. Unless someone (aka me) is out there daily in Central Texas to reduce the weed problem to a linear one, it’s unbeatable without spraying chemicals (which works on only some weeds in the lawn and doesn’t work at all in the garden beds because it would kill my plants). And it’s not economical to hire someone to come the house every day for an hour of work.
Also, it would be great to have a bot, not a human like me, out doing it on those days above 100F or under 20F.

I doubt it was folding autonomously however it would make a good avatar

It would be nice for the maker to explain something about it.

Optimus for a home robot
Boston for a army robot

I'm fascinated how lifelike the movements are. Once this robot runs autonomously it will be a life changer.

But can it flip a burger? Then it will be game changer.

And how many Watts per badly folded shirt does it consume exactly ?

As slow as that thing folded that shirt it would never get through the mountains of clothes we deal with.

Meanwhile at Boston Dynamics bipedal bots are deftly tossing work tools to a human worker up a scaffold and nailing unnecessary but epic back flips for style points.

seems absolutely primitive compared to Boston Dynamics robots. And this is being remote controlled, you can even see the person at moments on the right side of the screen pop in.

Hope they cook for me. My wife doesn't cook for me. I need my own chef.
