This video represents my father Stijepo Gavric in process of making a marble sculpture.
Forgive me for the camera shaking, the video was created and edited by an amateur (at that point in time) using a DSLR for the first time.

Pretty sure this would be one of the very few things aliens would actually be impressed by from us

I like the way,  he has left the rest of the stone in it's rough state .  It makes it seem the girl was always in the  stone .  And all he had to do was set her free .

I came here after looking at Michelangelo's artwork. I can only imagine him working days and night for his famous sculptures

This is craftsmanship/art form that I admire the most. The skill and precision it takes to make stone look like that... It is absolutely amazing.

How did the old masters like Bernini sculpt fabric with a million folds ? Is it really sculpted out of marbe or is it layed over / combined with a statue..? Its mind blowing to me how much skill and patience is required for such artwork

"The sculpture is already complete within the marble block, before I start my work. It is already there, I just have to chisel away the superfluous material.”

I love the way the light looks on the superfine grain of the marble, the softness of the shadows and tones that mimic skin so well. Very beautiful craftsmanship!

Couple of comments down here are calling this cheap or fake because he's copying his initial clay sculpture. Damn. I guess chefs are generally frauds, too, what with thier "measurements" and "recipes". A true master just grabs handfuls of flour and knows how much is right because his heart tells him so. Things like "cups" and "precision" are the mark of an amateur.

Except no they aren't, because of course they aren't. What separates an amateur's work from a master's is the level of accurate detail and care that goes into it. And this isn't achieved through bloody pixie dust and unicorn farts, because magical talent doesn't exist. There are *right ways* to do things, and the measuring seen here is one of 'em.

Next thing you know these 999 IQ commenters will be expecting racecar drivers not to use steering wheels. Professionals need certain tools to actually function as professionals, ya knoblords.

Makes you wonder what person saw a piece of marble and said “I’m gonna make a person out of that”

I cant imagine being patient enough to chip off literally just a couple pieces of dust at a time. Incredible.
