Not sure whether to buy the Kawasaki Ninja 400 New or Used? Well this video is for you!

G'day I'm Kwackajack and I own a 2019 Kawasaki Ninja 400, and one of my most frequently asked questions about my bike here on the channel is from people wondering HOW they should buy it. Should you look to get a used one from the second hand market? Or cough up the extra cash and go brand new?

Well in todays video we'll discuss the Pro's and Con's of each buying option and we'll go over a few common buyer scenarios where I'll give my recommendations for each.

Let me know if you have any other questions about this bike or motorcycles in general in the comments below!

I think the deciding factor for me is that everyone around wants MSRP for their 2-3 year old bike with a couple thousand miles on it.

Having just bought a 2020 Ninja 400 with a full custom white body kit, Two Brother's Exhaust, Quad Lock mount, 3200kms ridden and the old body kit/exhaust included for $6900, second hand was 100% the choice for me.

Big agree on the point that damaging a second hand bike might not sting as much vs scratching your brand new baby.

I got mine used during Covid, 4k miles for $3, 500, pristine condition. Bike already paid for itself for helping me dodge the $15 per day parking fees downtown to go to work. That plus the 30mpg better fuel economy than my car has saved a considerable amount. If I ever sell it to trade up, it'll be pure profit. I would 100% buy used again

Personally, I'm a new rider and I'm looking for something to have as my everyday ride. Thanks for the video, it's kinda intimidating to pick both what kind of bike I want, as well as where to get it. Hearing opinions from people who know their bikes and stuff like this, helps a lot ^^

I've gotten multiple quotes from dealers around me. Even some out of state. Out the door for a new 2023 is always $7000+ USD.
Found a 2022 with less than 1000 miles from a private seller. Asking for $4800. Could probably even negotiate a bit. I wanted new, but rather save the $3000+. Good video by the way!

That break in period sounds like the perfect period for new riders to get familiar with the bike. I am planning on picking up one of these hopefully next week.

Got this bike with 3k miles on it for $4.5k

Dealers here charging $7k-$8k otd. The choice was obvious and it's pretty much new. Not a single issue.

I've been always told by so many people that for the first bike I should buy a used bike, but in Switzerland from what I've been seeing, any used bikes that aren't 8+ years old and don't have over 10000km ran through them, you pay like 1k less than a brand new bike, so I'd much rather buy a new bike because what I'd save on the bike itself, I'd have to pay for the service, etc. which is pointless

Thanks mate, this helped me a lot. I’ve been wondering whether I should get a new or used Ninja as my starter bike. This video solved my problems.

Thx for share, really good info presented. got mine 2 weeks ago, almost brand new 23model only 600km including rego until end of November this year. listed 7.3k aud including RWC but not included tax charge. yes, i have contacted dealer, they have confirmed the warranty can be transferred. new one may goona wait for 6 weeks or more. I have experience rode e-scooter for 2 years, yes i can say this is the Perfect bike for new riders. easy to handle, light weight and suits for small height person like me. But a comprehensive insurance including theft protection is necessary for new riders in my opinion. You won't feel frustrated when any issue comes. As In Australia the second hand market for motorbike is mature already. I got suggestion from my friend to buy a used bike. good value and good condition. not really need to purchase a brand new bike only if u kind mind bike is not brand new.

Street bikes tend to hold value really well, so buying new would be my course of action if I planned to hold onto it long term. Race and touring bikes lose value very quickly. I can pick up a 4 year old K1600 with under 30, 000km on the clock for half of the new dealer price.

i was looking around and researching and decided to get a Z400.

as a PC enthusiast I was extremely well-aligned with buying a used bike. But when I saw the used prices...

bikes were 2yrs old, 11000km, and 400USD less than MSRP...
i went straight to a dealer and paid in cash.

I lucked out I think. Buying a 2023 Ninja 400 KRT with 971 miles on it. The dealership was sold out on this particular model. The previous owner bought it new and decided he wanted to upgrade to the 650 and promptly traded it in. So the dealership called and offered it to me for 6500. I jumped on it. Brand new I was looking at 7700-9000. And the previous owner put a Leo Vince exhaust on it. I am completely satisfied with the transaction. Can't wait to get my license and start riding it

Good way to see if the bike has issues is the state of the chain, check for rust. If the chain is in poor condition most likely the owner didn't take care of the bike. Also check for dents on any exposed parts as well as knicks and scratches.
