I like these type of videos, they offer the perspective that people are people, everywhere. People can be bigoted, adventurous, smart, mean, distant, anything, but overall people are mostly kind. Although I do not "drink the cool aid" about propaganda put out by the Chinese government, because it is far from perfect, and their are great inequities and problems that face China, as it is in the United States. Your videos, not only offer Westerners a perspective they would never see of China, that they are just people, and very kind, but the videos also help to put an end to the demonetization and ignorant views of Chinese people, possessed by many Westerners, and you show the west that we are all just people. It reminds me of the quote from 2010, "Just because our governments are acting like doesn't mean we have to. We're scientists, not politicians." For those reasons, you guys are great ambassadors.

I'm a very passive smoker and I always buy Single cigarette when i smoke. (not full packet) (in India i pay almost 20 cents.) I tried to get it 3-4 times from local shop in China and everyone refusing money. Now i quit smoking.!

Thank you for praising Chinese cuisine. I live in America and am a Chinese American. Unlike the unwelcoming and derogatory comments I often hear from serpentza putting down Chinese cuisine and saying it is just "randomly thrown around the plates after they are chopped up", you are much more positive and fairer in judgment to the amazing Chinese cuisine styles from different regions than serpentza. Serpentza loves japan a lot and is very biased in his view against the Chinese. He didn't know that japanese gyoza (dumplings) is actually a Chinese invention. Japanese ramen is also plagiarized from the Chinese lamian 拉面. Japanese shabu-shabu is also plagiarized from the Chinese hot pot. Japanese tea, tea ceremony, rice, soy sauce, chopsticks, and many of their "cultural practices" are originally taught them by the Chinese, including the way they sit at low tables (from earlier Chinese dynasties such as Zhou, Qin and Han Dynasties). Japanese shumai is the Cantonese dim sum dish of siumai 烧卖 with the japanese even plagiarizing the Cantonese pronunciation. I've studied japanese and am very exposed to japanese "culture" with America heavily advertising it, and I only see how the Chinese have influenced in japanese in all of their "cultural practices".

Thanks for this video! I've been in China for two years now, and although I have had SO MANY amazing experiences since I've moved here, there are times when I find myself myself dwelling on some of the negative sides. I'm going to get outside, socialize, and have myself some fantastic street food tonight.

Hey, I just wanted to tell you guys that Conquering Southern China was really one of the most entertaining and interesting documentaries I've seen this year. I really hope you will have the chance to make a similar one in Northern China or other countries, this is truly a nice brake from other "tourist" documentaries who only cover tourist areas.
