Water scarcity and drought are increasingly recognized as critical risks that threaten essential infrastructure systems such as water provision, energy, health, and education. In this video, 🌍 Luis Donas Nunez, Head of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation at Chile's National Disaster Prevention and Responsive Service (SENAPRED), discusses the multifaceted impacts of these slow-onset hazards.

SENAPRED, in collaboration with the UNDRR and CDRI, is leading a multi-sectoral approach to analyze and address these emerging risks. By strengthening infrastructure resilience and fostering collaboration across sectors, they aim to mitigate the cascading effects of water scarcity and climate change. 💧

This video highlights the importance of understanding the root causes of water scarcity, improving basin management, and enhancing climate adaptation strategies.💡

About UNDRR:
The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) has a big ambition: to help decision-makers across the globe better understand and act on risk. At UNDRR, we believe there is no such thing as a natural disaster. A natural hazard, such as a hurricane, earthquake, tsunami, or flood, only becomes a disaster when it impacts a community that is not adequately protected and whose population is vulnerable as a result of poverty, exclusion, or social disadvantage. We envision a world where disasters no longer threaten the well-being of people and the future of the planet. Sustainable development and the 2030 Agenda cannot be achieved without working towards the goal of building resilience.
