Sounds like your basis needs a basis.. Why is empathy and logic a good basis? How would you even define good or bad? Who decides the definition of empathy we go with? Whos definition of logic do we agree with? Does it strike you that empathy isn't always logical for ALL people? You need to find the standard objective ruleset or there can be no good and bad, no real morality. Thats where God comes in.

But nothing so Perfect as God's Law. It makes ALL men equal and ALL men guilty. Absolutely perfect...so that equally, ALL men NEED a Saviour Who can reconcile the imperfect with The Perfect. Thank God for The Wisdom of such a system and for providing such a Mediator; a Saviour who was able to fulfill that law and provide a way for man to be One with his Creator. The law was made to show us we needed a Saviour. That of our own power we could not be perfect as a Holy God requires. None of us. And so ALL men must come the SAME way; rich, poor, white, black, man, woman...and that is simply by placing our Faith in The Sufficiency of His Substitution..our way of escape, He provided. By His Grace [unmerited favor] thru Faith in His Sacrifice and Resurrection....Brilliant. Because Such a system is universally available, free, without prejudice or qualification. The ultimate equalizer.
