In this video I will be charging my new 2024 Tesla Model 3 Performance to 100% at my local supercharger and driving it until it dies (almost) to see how far it can go on a single charge. This is not a 70 mph highway test but more of a real world range test without aeros and not being very efficient.

Just took Delivery in Indianapolis on Labor Day of an Ultra Red M3 LrAWD. WOW. This thing is crazy!! It’s my first Tesla and these videos have been instrumental in making my life easier!

Between 65mph and 75mph I hit over 310miles on a single charge.

It seems like driving around 72-75 makes a huge difference. Something about 80ish really makes a negative difference.

I’m just curious how many people have revved their engines at red lights and then you smoked them?

On a lot of cars I’ve heard the aero caps are good for 10%. Combine that with the lower 70 MPH limit and I’m guessing the range is much closer to 280. Here in Oregon, where a lot of the speed limits are 55mph I probably could get closer to 300 miles of range.

Fellow Lexingtonian here. Picked up a new M3 LR AWD a couple weeks ago in ultra red. Absolutely loving it so far. Thanks for the vids! I’ll keep my eyes peeled for you!

Teslas estimationas are spot on. You have to know where to look and how to drive. The battery percentage/range is a linear metric based on charge available. I drive spiritedly in my model 3 performance highland with over 800 miles on the clock. I'm averaging 233 whm versus 250.

Great vid been waiting for someone to do this now I know how far it can actually get me on a road trip

Honestly, given the circumstances of this range test, 235miles is pretty good. 80mph average speed, 20in wheels and large staggered tires with the aero covers removed. There are plenty of EVs in the M3P class that have around 230-250epa estimated total range that would probably not even Crack 200miles of they did this exact type of range test.

Love the test. I live in Bowling Green and occasionally drive to Lexington to visit friends. It was nice to see how it went for you in a PM3.

Also, the Bucee’s in Smith’s Grove will be getting Supercharger. They are in development according to the recent Tesla Supercharger Map update. I’ve seen X threads regarding electrical flags and a charger blueprint for that location. Should be close to 20 stalls installed. Hopefully they’re V4!

It would be great if you just drove it the way everybody does and with the AC on full blast and see what it does

Where are you plugging that radar detector in? I need that!

real world? Hmm. So, I too have a 2024 Model 3 Performance with about 3.5k miles. Last weekend I took it on a 700 mile trip from the San Francisco bay area east over Tioga Pass (9941ft), and out into Nevada, back over Sonora Pass (9641 ft), and back to the bay area. I consistently exceeded the posted speed limit by a small amount and enjoyed one stretch of 80-90 mph speeds, with a top speed of 122 mph. Over the whole trip the car achieved 240 watt hours per mile. Despite extreme elevation gains, my car's efficiency was something like 30% better than what your car did.

The conclusion is that cruising at 80 mph simply doesn't make any sense, especially in an EV. Had you dropped the speed to 70, the total trip time (including charging) would likely have been no longer, but the energy efficiency would have been substantially higher.

I took the small aero off and just bought hole plugs off Amazon to plug the holes and it looks great.

Love Buc-ees! We have two on I-95 - in Florida - one St Augustine and the other Daytona Beach - both have superchargers. Getting my Model 3 in about 2 weeks! Cant wait

Is that just Autopilot or FSD? And if Autopilot, do you still have to nudge the wheel regularly if you keep eyes on the road?

My daily commute I would say probably mimics an EPA route in that I drive about 60% highway and 40% city. I hit traffic sometimes and I try to stay below 70mph. I stay in insane mode all the time. My air temps so far range between 70-100 degrees. I keep my cabin at about 70-71 degrees F. I don’t have Aeros. With this I am averaging 329miles. My lifetime including all my launches and a couple road trips has my range at 310miles. On my road trips in hot summer trying to stay below 70 I get about 280miles per charge.
I would say your example here is consistent with somone whose never driven a EV and just drives it without any attempts at efficiency. But as my example proves you can get better range with minimal effort. If I added aero caps back and really pushed hard on efficiency I could squeeze out 350miles on my commute and maybe 300 on my road trip.

Re the radar detector, do you direct wire right into that unit at the mirror? Is it easy to make that power connection?
