This Pastor Doesn't Get How Bible Translations Work

This KJV-Only pastor says he can correct the Greek text using the King James Version. In fact, he confidently states, “Who cares what the Greek says?” Ironically, the original translators of the King James Version cared very much about what the Greek said. After all, that’s how they produced their translation. No Greek; No KJV. In other words, they had to know what the Greek (and Hebrew) texts said to then decide what English words would best convey that meaning. Choices needed to be made, and this process wasn’t perfect.

Why would anyone spend their time going to church only to hear a pastor proclaim his ignorance? Ending every sentence with "amen" doesn't improve it either.

I did a double take when he said he could correct the Greek.

So according to the Pastor's logic, the Church didn't have access to the Word of God for the first 1, 600 years of its existence, until the KJV translators came in to fill that gap in 1611? Yeah, I'm sure I'm not the only one who has a hard time believing that!

Bro is adding “amen” to the end of every sentence like a millennial adding “lol” to the end of every text, lol.

I remember reading a KJV only website that claimed NASB was inferior because "heretical" Anglcians where involved in the translation. Wait until he finds out who originally translated the KJV.

I care what "the greek" says because thats what our Church Father's said, because they handed down everything we know of our Savior.

I’m sure the Apostle Paul appreciates him correcting the letters he wrote in Hebrew and Greek.

At a recent Bible study, someone put up a newer translation of one of the Psalms, and one of the old-timers said (tongue in cheek) "No, give us the real Psalm, the King James version". This led to some joking back and forth over which English translation was the "real" Bible until I said "No, putting up the 'real' version wouldn't be helpful, because most of us cannot read ancient Hebrew".

Came from TikTok. Your commentary and insight is very humble and caring towards people and their understanding of scripture. Thank you for your example of leadership.

Well, I know he’s right because he said Amen 3 or 4 times per sentence.

unfortunately the Hebrew and Greek classes were a waste on this man. What an embarrassment to good bible preaching and teaching!

Just for the record, if you read an original Kings James Bible, at the very beginning it literally says I hope future generations improve upon what we have

I used to be in an IFB and sat under preaching like this. It was actually through Mike Winger's channel that I realized that my family and I didn't need to be there anymore. We were able to find a good SBC church and have really grown in our faith and flourished there!

This is the guy you say to: Right! If the King's English was good enough for St Paul, it's good enough for me!

If only he would just read the preface of his KJV and realize that even the translators of the KJV would reject his position. The 1611 KJV translators did an AMAZING job with the TR and limited manuscripts they had back in the day to produce such an accurate translation, but don’t get it twisted, they would have LOVED to have the all the manuscripts that we have been privileged to have discovered and continue to do so to this day! Praise God for preserving his word!

I'm sure my Christian Greek boyfriend would LOVE to hear this. He reads his Bible in Greek and I in English and we cross reference when we study together. That guy needs to repent. Smh

After I heard all of that, when the guy said, "What did you learn from all that?", my immediate thoughts were, "That you're a rebel.", "That you care more about affirming your own presuppositions as opposed to finding the truth of the Scriptures.", "That you would rather lead your congregation like a blind man leading the blind as opposed to a seeing shepherd.", the list kinda goes on...

He might have been the one I saw a few years back that said “we shouldn’t say God is a triune because there are four, Father, Son, Holy Spirit, and word.”
Makes my skin crawl

These are the same people who probably think that Jesus spoke English and wrote the bible personally as it happened.
