It's touching that Rick acknowledges how much Morty always meant to him by posting his OWN wallet pic of Morty

I think the reason Ricks wife feels so much like Rick is because this is all in Morty's mind so he imagines Diane as having the same vibe as Rick

I think Rick pulling Morty’s picture out of his wallet wasn’t just to show Morty conquered his fear. But also to show exactly how much Rick does care about Morty. It’s such an old school grandparent thing for them to keep “wallet size” picture of their grandkids in their wallet. It kind of lets us know that Morty’s fear was a bit irrational, because of course Rick loves Morty, and more specially, this Morty.

The conversation between Morty and the Fear Host broke me.

Mortys fear isn’t that Rick will not need him if he’s happy, it’s that Rick doesn’t care about him. That, even if Morty was in serious danger, Rick wouldn’t put in the effort to save him, he would just get a new Morty. The point of Rick, pulling out the little picture of Morty to hang on the wall, is to show the audience that Rick does care about Morty.

This episode was intense and i loved it. I wasnt prepared for it at all

This was the best episodes this entire season it was so dark love it the finale didn't disappoint i never throught we'd see dianne, and rick prime dead in the same season also i love how morty is afraid of turning into jerry made me feel uneasy cannot wait for season 8.

I absolutely loved season 7 I probably didn’t like one episode…other than that I thought every other one was awesome, I love the new voices, I love all the stories, all the adventures and most importantly all the jokes….season 7 9/10 so sad we have to wait a year for season 8

This season had a few really good episodes. The finales never disappoint! Good to see Diane good introspective episode

I heard a few theories and facts for anyone that’s interested:

- Hole Rick had a side plot because Morty still has some of Ricks memories from the end of season 5. He would vividly remember/know Ricks fear of losing Diane. In a way, the hole was technically feasting on the fears of Morty memories by feasting on the borrowed memories of Rick. We know a memory can develop a sort of sentience so it’s pretty likely that hole Rick also had a level of actual sentience.

- We know Rick wasn’t with Morty because one of his biggest fears is pirates. All Ricks fear pirates. (It autocorrect to clowns for some reason)*

- Rick didn’t jump into the hole because he knew he wouldn’t make it out. Potentially, this is his fear of leaving Morty behind and he technically faces it by not going into the hole. Considering he finds Morty irreplaceable, it makes sense he wouldn’t take the risk. The smarter you are, the more grief you know. “For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.”

Morty isn’t scared of Rick becoming happy and abandoning him; he’s scared that the cold persona is true and Rick never actually cared about Morty to begin with, that he obviously wouldn’t jump in the hole after him and he would’ve been an idiot to truly believe he would.

He’s been holding out hope for the crumbs of his grandpa’s vulnerability but worried that, whether it’s because deep down he’s like Rick Prime or he’s too scared to let himself care about anyone after Diane, that Rick would choose self-preservation at a moment when he needs his grandpa most.

They’re both afraid of fully trusting each other like this, but they actively trust each other anyway because the only way out is through so they may as well Act As If.

Mortys fear isn't depending on Rick. It's having to rely on him when he knows Rick isn't reliable and will probably abandon him.

I love how Mr Poopybutthole has become so commonplace, no one even bats and eye or thinks twice when they say it. It just comes out so casually now, and that's fucking hilarious.

Awesome recap! This has to be my favorite episode this season. On rewatch you'll notice Morty is in every scene while Rick and Diane reacquainting themselves. The hole intern describing how best case scenario is dying at the exact same time. - freaking awesome. Morty living an entire lifetime in the hole. Seeing Diane and Rick together was absolutely lovely. Diane, Summer and Beth together. Perfection. And when Rick posted the pic of Morty my heart absolutely melted. Literally laugh out loud funny jokes by each of the main cast.
One of the most perfectly written episodes of Rick and Morty for sure!

I think this is my favorite episode from the series. We never really got that concentration on Morty’s problems so it was a great plot twist
