I know it's weird, but I love how this lock sounds. Even the motor sounds satisfying. I do think they missed an opportunity by not going for Thread, but it probably won't cause any major issues. I'm looking forward to unlocking the door via facial recognition with the G4 doorbell. The Aqara ecosystem is getting stronger!

Bought my first house last May and after watching your videos decided to go with Aqara as my go to smart home devices, have few motion, door and temp sensors, Aqara video doorbell all connected to m2 hub. Planning to get more devices in future, a door lock would be a great addition😁 automations that I’ve set up so far nothing to fancy motion sensors turning my stairs lights same thing in my gaming room but I think my favourite is Aqara mini switch that turns on my food waste disposer that is connected to smart plug. Been toying with smart home tech for an apartment for several years and frequently watched your channel for tips along the journey. I recently purchased a home and things are about to get serious! Purchased this lock after watching this vid. Thank you, it was very informative. It’s installed and working, having some failed attempts with the strike plate but honestly I think it’s the door being slightly off. Going to figure it out. Trying to understand matter still and if I need it, it’s connected to HomeKit so I think I’m good. Going to purchase their doorbell here shortly. I think I’m going to stay in the Aqara ecosystem. They seem to offer a ton of home solutions. Thanks again.

My favorite automation is with the u100 smart lock itself. When someone gets home and shuts the door, it auto locks as it should. After it auto locks, I created an automation to say “front door locked.” 😱 crazy that I need to do that in the app but it works. Would like another for the backyard door tho!

Just finished installing the U100 (we run a daycare in our home and are using it for the main door there.). It was the easiest installation I have done for a smartlock. The app is great... my only complaint is I would like it to be able to have more than one admin user. Other than that connecting it to the hub, adding the Alexa skill and connecting to my Homekit was a breeze... I highly recommend this lock.

I am not a fan of Bluetooth as I had a bad experience with Level lock. Not using that boat anchor now. Schlage plus has been solid so far.

Just the gyroscope auto lock feature wins over any other brands. I currently have a samsung ezon that has a magnet for the auto lock but does not have biometrics and wanted a upgrade.

@shanecreates 8:30 you mentioned that binding to a hub will result in it communicating over zigbee, is this true even when using HomeKit? There’s no indication in the home app that the lock is attached to a hub/child accessory. Do you know if this is indeed the case that the lock will not communicate via BT to HomePods/Apple TV?

Just installed ours on Monday and so far I really like it. Replaced an older Schlage Z-Wave lock that I had been trying to tie into HomeKit unsuccessfully so I decided it was time to just replace it. I decided to keep the deadbolt and strike plate from the Schlage lock as they are much more heavy duty than the included Aqara hardware. To do this I did have to file down the small bump on the flat rod that goes through the door to actually actuate the lock. Not a big deal, a few strokes with a flat file and it fit perfectly. First thing I noticed once it was installed and it was running through calibration is that the motor inside is rather weak. The old Schlage actually had two power settings and if the low power failed to extend the bolt then it would automatically attempt it again with the higher power, which was often necessary on my door. The Aqara just couldn't do it so I had to pull out the file and a set of chisels and clearance the opening in the door behind the strike plate as much as possible (there's a sidelight on the knob side of my front door). It is working well now but I wonder if I'll have to adjust it again once the weather changes due to the house moving a bit in the winter. Once it was fully set up and added to HomeKit everyone in the house received notifications on their phone that they had a HomeKey ready to use. It has taken a bit of adjustment, mostly with proper technique for tapping the phone properly to unlock, but so far so good!
