Very interesting Pete, good to see you in my feed again without a years'-long gap, too.

With things like little microphones, and suchlike, I find that the miracle is not so much how well they work..; as that they work, at all, for the price.

That, and the idea that somewhere in the world there exists a Manufacturing Plant, with a whole production-line attended by workers, all run by a management-apparatus..., devoted to building & testing & packaging & dispatching "the Product" for distribution & promotion & sales Worldwide....; it staggers me that someone decided to raise and spend the funding required to build the facility, source the raw materials, bring it all together - and employ so many individuals doing what amounts to dilligently manufacturing Landfill...., for profit, hire, and reward !

Because within 5 years or so of leaving the factory, that's where all that stuff finishes up !

The Great Pyramids of Giza are as nothing, compared to the wonder that is the Global distribution of Shiny Stuff to be used, abused, lost, broken, discarded and dumped ; often while still in working order, to make way for a New Model, available in a selection of "Fashionable Colours" - or which has some other "Bells & Whistles" function or feature...

One wonders how much longer such Phenomena will continue, now that the US has launched a Trade War against all the Nations which make and sell Stuff...(?).

Thyme will tell..., I suppose.

Awesome that you're back at it Pete! Did miss your vids. Quick Question, can these lapel mics be used on as a replacement mic on a in-car headunit with Bluetooth?

By the way, I really enjoy your videos about inclosure design. Don’t phones have filters to reduce the lower and high frequencies? An example would be if the microphone is capturing sounds as someone is driving a car it will reduce the low rumbling sound and also high frequencies that just aren’t needed to hear voices. The cellular bandwidth really isn’t designed to carry anything but voice as well. So the filter takes all the stuff out it doesn’t need before converting it to digital cellular data and makes the call easier to comprehend for the listener.

To me, the smartphone recording sounded more natural; the one with the field recorder sounded thin, but crisper, more intelligible. Probably better for just voice capture. Would be interesting to know, why.

What would you recommend as a microphone upgrade in a vehicle? I would love to be able to have more clear audio output for whoever is on the other end of the call than what comes with a stock head unit.
