I am very fortunate and took a year off and didn't do much but hang with friends and family and looking back on it every single second was worth it.

Wow! Viewing this as a parent of a CMU Information Technology student that just started (this Fall '22) on this journey, your #2 reason - spending time with your parents truthfully made me tear up. I think all your reasons are valid and a brain break won't hurt you at all, on the contrary. You're in a great school and in a great program. We are in the exact same situation than your family is as far as out of pocket cost and no fin aid. It's hard, but you kids are so worth it! Keep it up, you have almost reached the finish line!
