Here I service two 9.9hp Mercury four stroke outboards that are both not running.
Hope this helps.

A carb cleaning technique I learned decadess ago was to just simply use Berryman Chem-Dip. Take the carb apart, throw it all in the can, let it soak for three or four hours, wash with water and blow dry, reassemble with new gaskets and boom... brand frickin' new carb. No poking stuff, no spraying carb cleaner all in your eyes, no guessing, no bullshit. The stuff also works really well to decarbonize things like plugs, cylinder heads, intake ports (on DI engines), and anything else with a petroleum- based residue you want gone. It won't touch plastic, rubber, or metal, but I found out one time with a Honda BF7.5 carb I forgot about for a week is that it will eventually take paint off. Whoopsydoodles.

The issue is they are crap 4 strokes! Nothing compared to a 2 stroke!
