Me and a friend played PTU for around 5 hours last night. We both agreed in our 7 years in playing this game that this PTU patch was probably one of the best experiences we'd had in the game. Think it'll be better with local servers as it seems to only give US servers atm

4.0 should be a milestone. A milestone where we slowly approach the "playable" state. A milestone that gives us a complete wipe. So i personally would really appreciate it if they finally get some manpower to polish this build... at least somewhat. If this patch, like most, breaks more stuff then it fixes, only to impelement some new tech that doesn't work how it should, i will stop caring real quick again for this game. It already is a wonder if it works, so please make it work CIG. Use the Open PTU for polishing, not the live servers.

I was on 4.0 and this patch was great, literally the best for a long time. The server had an issue but recovered and the frame rate around high population areas dropped but the majority of the time my frames were 80+, elevators worked, doors opened etc etc

I have a win scenario for CIG, put a poll out to the players. Ask the player base if they'd rather have 4.0 put off to the New Year and to have it further refined, or pushed out now regardless and meet the deadline. Thus, they can "blame the players" in a sense for voting for whichever option wins.

It doesn't need to be a perfect experience, but it should be a mostly stable experience. I think they have to go for stability. If they can't get it stable at scale, people will think the server meshing component has failed. And since that is the key, it would push people off and away from the game until there was a verifiable, improved experience. I think they can have gameplay bugs and elements where the ships and environments are a bit glitchy, but they can't have transition bugs or server/client crashes that seem to happen during transitions. If people can get in and stay in the game... if people can make and save progress, and if more people can be on each of the static servers - I think that will be *fine* for a live launch. People will gripe and grumble about missions and individual experiences, but honestly if they can stay in and play for good periods of time, that's the win CIG needs. Also... I think CIG should remove some of the time-sinks if the progress bugs are wreaking havoc - nothing feels worse than running into a bugged mission and knowing your death means you're going to spend 40 minutes getting back to where you were. Kind of wish they'd conjure up some checkpoint outposts for respawn.

I would appreciate they take their time with 4.0 those half cooked releases are a pain in the ass. the current live version is the most terrifying experience I had with this game for years. So lets wait and see

You make a good point toward the end that I haven't heard from other content creators: 4.0 isn't in perfect condition, but honestly, it's probably in a better state than LIVE currently is, so they might as well push it. I do think that the "You only get to do 4.0 once" arguement is a good one, BUT, if they wait too long, they will miss out on exposure as well. Thanks for the content!

It's not more broken than live. Had a great time doing asteroid base missions with working ai and 80fps.

They should wait honestly ... even if it runs smoothly if anything goes wrong having to fix that over just 3/4 days is just not feasible.

Id want them to hold off till its more polished. In the PTU i setup my zues for long term roughing it in pyro. Took a while to set that up. I stored my ship at a pyro station to try the contested zones, it disappeared and i got the option to clam. All that effort trying to keep living out of a single ship, waisted.

Testing 4.0 I have 3 main problems: Big performance drop. Game turned into a slide show, at least for me, especially when around POI's are dozens of abadoned ships and wreckages.
Another thing is falling into planet on POI's. Seems to be better now but still more common than in 3.24 branch.
Lot of contracts in Pyro don't work and this contracts are not so fast to do like in Stanton.

Definitely hope they wait it out. It would be a big deal to have a solid live release of this patch. Could set the stage for them for years to come.

I feel like they should just do an Operation Health angle for the game. Fix the bugs and make it less play testing and more playing. They should also just add more staff immediately focusing on bug fixing after updates-especially the big ones-to make the game more fluid. I know for a fact that one of the main reasons people leave is that the game becomes unplayable every so often.
Also, if this project ever fades out, becomes unfunded, fails, whatever, they should really publish this technology because this game is such a passion project and so cool with the tech. This might be too optimistic so I can only hope.

Pyro can come out bugged this year, or it can come out bugged AND late next year. They can't win on that front, so they might as well push it.

You know what would be a great way to fix the inevitable problem of PES? Especially when it comes to constant abandoned ships lying everywhere? RSI should implement a system where you can call in AI salvaging crew, or bot, that comes and breaks down a ship that has been sitting for multiple hours
