MY RØDE REEL 2018

We shot and cut Behind the Scenes for our friends at Chweyo who submitted the short film THE ARENA for the 2018 instalment of the yearly RØDE REEL competition.

The short short film was shot on the Blackmagic Production Cinema Camera 4K completely in studio. Like everybody else, time (and money) was not our side but this short proved to be a great learning platform. Omondi Ouko, the award-winning Animator/Compositor was tasked with turning the little girl (who it must be said is a star) into a 3D model.

The global shutter on the BPCC4K was a lifesaver when it came to the photogrammetry process, something we had failed a few times before using cameras with rolling shutter. Once Omondi had the DNG sequence from the BPCC4K, he ran them through Photoscan, a photogrammetry software that reconstructed the 3D model from the 2D pictures. The photos would be later used to texture the resulting model which could then be animated to perform actions that were impossible to get from the actor.
