For this problem, I would have liked to have shown a solution using the polar form of trigonometric functions and de Moivre's theorem. That is, from x+1/x=√2⇒x²-√2x+1=0⇒x=(√2±i√2)/2,
x is expressed in trigonometric polar form, x=cos(±π/4) + i·sin(±π/4), so using de Moivre's theorem,
5・π/4)+i・sin(±5・π/4)}=(-√2∓i√2)/2,
and 1/x¹³=x^(-13)={cos(∓13・π/4)+i・sin(∓13・π/4)}={cos(∓5・π/4)+i・sin(∓5・π/4)}=(-√2±i√2)/2,
